Application filed Kay 17,
1926. Serial No. 109,762,.
The invention relates to improvements in holding the free end of. the buckled strap belts,'particularly those utilized for holding up trousers and the like and an object of the invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive and effective belt construction which insures, upon the-belt being put on and buckled in the ordinary way, that the trousers and the like are held at the desired height and are prevented from slipping and Without having to resort to the use of loops or straps as customarily employed.
With the above more'important object in view, the invention consists essentially in the arrangement and construction of parts The belt which I have invented overcomes- 4o hereinafter more referencebeing ha drawing,- in which 2- Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the belt.- Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail face view of (particularly described, to the accompanying the inner face of the belt.
Fl". 3 is an enlarged detailed sectional D view at 3-3 Figure 2. Fig. l is an enlarged detailed view at 4--4 Figure 2.
In the drawing like characters of refersectional ence indicate corresponding parts inv the po several figures.
At the present time trousers 9r pants are usually held by a belt buckled around the body which belt runs through and is held in straps or loops firmly attached at the upper edge of the trouser waist band. With such arrangement, the trousers usually slip downuntil the belt en ages at the hips. The result is not desira 1e as the trousers usually fall too low and sag at the crotch and'also between the belt straps and further the position of the belt is not at a. comfort able place.
the' above objections and without requiring to resort to straps orloops and it insures that the trousers will fit neatly and comfort ably and that the belt can be placed at the most comfortable position. The belt which I provide may be fastened in place by a tongued buckle or in any other well known manner.
In the present instance, the belt 1s shown as formed from an outer leather or such like strap 1, one end of which carries a buckle 2 having a tongue 3 and which is adapted to' receive the other end of the strap in the manner shown and hold the same in any adjusted position around the trousers. The customary loops 4 and 5 are provided for in place.
To the inner side of the strap 1, I have secured in any suitable manner an inner str p 6 which has the inner face thereof presenting gripping projections 7 adapted to engage the cloth of the trousers. The projections shown are arranged in intersecting obli ue rows and present sharp biting edges 8. Each projection is wedge shaped in form and terminates in the biting edge 8. It will be observed that one end of the strip 6 is free to underlie the buckle and a loop 9 is provided to receive such end. 7
W llilst I have shown a sin le strip 6, it Wfll'be readily understood t at the strip 6 could be made in sections which. might cover only part of the inner face of the strap. The, strip 6 is selected so that it will be flexible and will resent a plurality of integral- 1y formed in ependent gripping projections having ahigh co-eflicient of friction. I have found that a rubber strip serves very effec-i but obviously any other commodity hh vin'gsimilar qua ities willserve my purse. hilst I have herein shown the strip 6 as attached such as by cementing to the strap 1, it will be understood'that primarily in so far as my invention is concerned lt. is
only essential that the belt have integrally (projections on its inner formed gripping face to engage an hold the trousers. when the belt is applied thereon.
I am aware that belts having devices thereon which penetrate the cloth of the trousers 'have been used. These, however, are detrimental to the cloth as they cut, tear or.deface it after they have been in use for a period of time. In my case, however, theprojections do not penetrate the cloth but simply frictionally grip without penetrating and insure that there can be no slipping.
When one usesmy belt, he pulls the trousers up to the most comfortable fitting position and when passing the belt around the waist, he locates it at the most comfortable position. Upon tightening up the belt and fastening it in the usual way, it will be found that the trousers will remain suspended in the desired 0Sll3l011,lihfl frictional gripping projections olding the trousers and preventing any down slipping thereof. I might point out that the end of the strip which underlies the buckle insures that the front of the trousers cannot sag down as obviously would occur if such were not used to the rear of the buckle.
\Vhat' I claim as my invention is The combination with a belt strap pro- 5 vided with buckling means, of a flexible rubber strip cemented to the inner face of the belt strap and of the full width thereof and having'the inner face provided with a plui rality of integrally formed wedge shaped grippin projections, the projections being arrange in intersecting diagonal rows crossing the face of the strip.
Signed at Winnipeg this 20th day of Ap'ril, 1926.
