Description

July 26, 1960 c. DIETERLE 2,946,064
BELT
Filed Nov. 14, 1956 INVENTOR.
Eli/4 171. S
B) O ATTORNEY Unite States Patent BELT I v Charles Dieterle, Morges, Switzerland (58-64 rue du Lac, Morges, Canton of Vaud, Switzerland) Filed Nov. 14, 1956, Ser. No. 622,215
Claims priority, application Switzerland Nov. 23, 1955 1 Claim. (Cl. 2-312) The present invention relates to a detachable belt which is intended to support a garment internally, and is to be situated at the level of the wearers hips.
This belt is characterized in that it has at least one widened portion extending upwardly, which is intended to be situated at the level of the wearers waist, the said widened portion having means for fixing the belt to the garment, the whole in order to hold the said garment at the height of the waist whilst the belt bears against the wearers hips.
One form of embodiment of the subject of the invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings.
Fig. 1 is an elevatioinal view of the belt in the position of use,
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the belt on a larger scale, and
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on a larger scale taken on the line llI-III of Fig. 2.
The belt illustrated comprises an elastic strap 1, one end of which is provided with a hook 2, and the other end carries two clasps 3 which constitute, together with the hook, the closure of the belt. The strap 1 carries on its inner face a strip of rubber 4 intended to adhere to the underclothes of the person carrying the belt.
The belt has two widened portions 5, each of which is formed by a band of faille 6, sewn to the strap 1 and covered with a satinette lining 7. This lining has two cut-' away portions 8 only one of which is shown in the drawings, enabling the strap to be deformed elastically and to adapt itself better to the shape of the body of the person wearing the belt.
Each of the widened portions is reinforced by a stiffening strip 9 for imparting rigidity thereto; these stifiening strips are housed between the strap and the faille on the one hand and the lining on the other hand. Finally, button-holes 10 intended for fixing the belt to the inside of a garment such as trousers, skirts, etc., are formed in the upper part of the widened portions 5.
As is shown in Fig. 1, the present belt, which is particularly suitable for corpulent persons, is positioned in such a way that the strap 1 is situated at the level of the wearers hips 11, whilst the upwardly extending widened portions 5 are situated at the level of the wearers waist. Since the clamping effect is produced by the strap only, only the wearers hips are subjected to pressure whilst his waist remains free. However, since the button-holes 10 are formed at the top of the widened portions 5, the trousers 13 to which the belt is fixed internally are held Patented July 26, 1960 at the level of the waist, owing to the use of the faille and the presence of the stiffening strips, the widened por tions 5 of the belt do not become folded over under the eifect of the weight of the trousers.
The invention is not limited to the form of embodiment which has been described and illustrated: thus for example the closure means could be different or could event be dispensed with altogether, in which case the elastic strap would form a complete loop. The materials used for the manufacture of the said belt could also be different: faille could be replaced by leather or artificial leather; reinforcements other than stilfening strips, of hair or a synthetic textile materiaL'could be provided. The bones may be of metal, horn or a synthetic organic material; they could be more numerous or on the contrary could be dispensed with altogether. The rubber could be replaced by another material having good adhering properties, or could even be dispensed with; the
strap could be non-elastic. The button-holes could be replaced by any other fixed means. Finally, the two widened portions could be prolonged funther until they join one another and form only one continuous widened portion.
' What I claim is:
In a detachable belt intended for supporting a garment internally and for being placed at the level of the wearers hips, in combination: an elastic strap, two widened portions secured to said strap, each of a length slightly less than half the length of said strap, said widened portions being arranged substantially symmetrically relatively to the ends of said strap and extending above the upper edge of said strap and intended to be situated at the level of the wearers waist, each of said widened portions being formed by a band of faille secured only to the upper portion of said strap and by a satinette lining covering said band of faille and secured to the lower portion of said strap, whereby said widened portions are reinforced thus preventing the said portions from folding over under the action of the garments weight, the lower edge of the lining of each of 'said widened portions having one cutaway portion exposing said strap and enabling the strap to be deformed elastically, and means on the upper porported on the wearers hips.
