Application filed May 22,1905. Serial No. 261,593.
To all whom, it may concern,.-
Be it known that 1, JOHN ELsToN RHODES, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city et New York, borough of Bronx, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Garment-Securing Device, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to devices for securing garments in place, and more particularly to those adapted for use in connection with skirts and sh1rt-waists Its princi al objects are to provide such a device whic will hold the skirt from sagging and the waist from crawling and which will also draw down the front ofthe waist to give the pointed effect.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part or" this specilication, in which similar reference characters designate similar parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective View of one ernbodiment of my invention. Fig. 2 is an enlarged transverse section through the connecting-clasp'on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1. is a Yl'ront elevation of one of the companion clasps, and Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4 4 ot Fig. A
The numeral 1t) designates a belt which has its ends separably connected by a clasp 11. 'lhis clasp comprises a plate having near one side parallel toothed slots 12 12 to At the opposite side is a slot 13, which may be engaged by a hook 14, fixed to the opposite extremity ol the belt.. rl`he plate is curved to conform in a general way to the waist of the wearer, and therel'ore having its concave side turned outwardly. 'the slots at the opposite sides ot the plate iii-1.)' be inclined with relation to the central axis, thej. being shown as converging toward t be top to better enable the belt to follow the waist-line. ln the plate above the ends ol' the brlt is an opening 15 ol' substantially triangular l'orm, but with the apiees rounded and the base situated just above the openings, .and l'roni the apex opposite the base extends a contracted portion lo. rl`he general contour el' the upper part of" the plne is similar to that oll the opening, there being lel't. about: it a wail of suitable thickness. .^\t the upper end ot the clasp 11 di- "erging hooks 1 7 17 overhang the concave 'smoel' the plate and serve to engage the band ol' the sliirl. 'l`he bottoni ol the plre" below the belt is bent to surround a portion of an rig. s,
the form of a safety-pin 18, the movable portion 19 of which is left free to engage the corset.
Mounted upon the belt are clasps 20, which are conveniently six in number and each of which 'is furnished by a plate rovided with parallel slots 21 21, through w ich the belt passes. In each plate, above the slots, is an opening 22 similar to that of the clasp 12 and having a like upwardlyextend ing contracted portion 23.' The clasps 2() are also curved, and at the outer face, upon each side of the portion 23, is a projection 24, these projections extending toward the up per ends of the clasps and being reduced or pointed. They are conveniently formed by stlriking up tongues from the body of the ate. p In-use the belt is placed about the waist of the wearer, its length being adjusted by slip ping it through the slots 12 and it being tastened in place by the insertion of the hook 14. in the slot 13. The pin 18 is attached to the corset to held the olas 11 down over the abdomen at the center o the front of the waist, while the clasps 20 are slipped along the belt to seeure such a distributlon as will best suit the particular person employing the device. Portions of the shirt-waist are now introduced through the openings 15 and 22 from the inner sides of' the clasps and drawn up into the contracted portions. The skirt is placed over the clasps at such a height that the band may be engaged by the projections. Then upon drawing the outer belt about the waist the band is forced against the projee* ltions, and thus prevented from sagging. At-
the same time t ie pressure of the skirt-band upon the portions of the waist protruding through the openings locks these against accidental disengagement. 'l`o hold the skirt from rising at the front, the band is slipped beneath the hooks 17, and this central portion ol' the shirt-waist is drawn down to produce a point'. or dip. It should be noted that the garments need be in no wise altered te adapt them for use in connection with my improved securing device and that it may be applied without sewing.
llaving thus deserilmd my invention, lv elainLJas new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A garment-securing device comprising a belt, a clas mounted upon the belt and being provided with an opening to receive a attaching device, this, as illustrated, being in portion oll a garment, garment engaging llO opening, and
ne'ctor having an opening means situated on said clasp adjacent to the a connector for the ends of the belt, said ceive a, part of a garment and allso being pro. vided with a. garment-engaging hook outside of said op'ening.-
2. A garment-securing device comprising a belt, e Clas mounted upon the-belt and beling provide i with an opening to receive a portion of i a gaime'nhfgarment engaging .means'situated' adjacent to the o ennl afconnector for the ends of the be t, sei' con'ectorhaving ari opening to receive e part of a "armeni: and etfltsopposite ends, a hookl sin @safety-pin. l. v 3. A garment-fsecifring device comprising a belt, a clasp monted on` the belt, and a connector'fo'r the 'ends of the belt, seid conto receive a part of the garnie t, and provided at its opposite ends With a hook and e safety-pin.
connector having an opening to reopening 4. A garment-securing device comprising a belt, and a connector for the ends ofthe belt, said connector having an o ceive a part of a garment, an being provided-at its'up er and lower ends respectively with a hoo and a safety-pin.'
5. A garment-securing -a plete aving projectlng from contracted portion, and an attaclng'device mounted upon the plate at the' opposite side ofthe opemng's' from theihoo'k. 1
In testimony whereof `I have signed-my a contractedportion, a hook the plete at the end of thel ening to redevice comprisingiovided .Withbelt-openings and an name'to this specification in the presence of tW'o subscribing witnesses. l
