This invention relates to fasteners and has particular reference to a fastener adapted for use in connectionwith a garment supporter by which one garment is adj ustably suspendedfrom a second garment.

One of the primary objects of'this invention is to provide a fastener of the above mentio'ne'd character in which all of the partsof the'fastener lie in substantially the same plane whereby. the fastener is relatively flat.

A furtherobject of this invention is toprovide a fastener of the above nientioned character vadapted to be secured to one garmerit and having means adapted for detachable connection to a second garment, the com necting means being of such a character as to prevent accidental disengagement of the second garment from the fastener the inventionfur'ther contemplates the provision of a fastener-which will be simple in construction and which may be conveniently manufac tured ona commercial scale with a minimum of expense. Thus the frame is free from sharp edges which might injure the wearer or tear the garment to which the fastener is attached. As will be clearly apparent by reference to Figure 1 of the drawings, the portions of the wire forming the neck 15 and loops 19, together, provide an extension at one side of the frame 10 and in the same plane as the frame.

The extension formed by the portions of the wire defining the neck 15 and loops 19 provides means for suspending or supporting a garment or the like from the frame 10. As illustrated in Figure 1 of the drawing a garment 30 may be provided with a tape forming a loop 31 adapted for engagement with the extension. As illustrated in Figure 1 the pertions of the wire defining the loops 19 are arranged closely adjacent the base 13 of the frame, these loops cooperating with the base of the frame and the neck 15 to form substantially closed pockets 33 adapted to receive the tape. With the tape looped around the neck 15 and extending through the pockets 33 in the manner clearly illustrated in Figure 1 of the drawing, accidental disengagement of the loop from the extension will be prevented by the resiliency of the wire which will maintain the portions of the wire defining the loops closely adjacent the base 13 of the frame. Thus, the tape may not he slipped out of the pockets between the loops 19 and the base of the frame without flexing the return bent portions 16 of the wire to provide clearance between the loops 19 and the base of the frame. In this manner the extension may be conveniently engaged with the loop but will .not become accidentally disengaged therefrom. p

In Figure 3 the invention is shown as being incorporated in a garment supporter including a strap 37 adjustably secured to the frame 10. In this form of construction the loops 19 formed on the frame may be engaged in a buttonhole 38 formed in a garment 39. Thus with the neck 15 extended through the buttonhole and the'loops 19 in back of the cloth defining the buttonhole, the frame will be held firmly in place by virtue of the fact that the cloth defining the bnttonhole will be clamped between the portions of the wire' forming the loops 19 and the base 13 of the frame. lVith the cloth 'ripped in the manner illustrated, accidental disengagement of the neck 15 from the buttonhole will be prevented.

The opposite end of the strap 37 may be ad- ;ustably secured to a frame 40 similar to the frame 10, this frame, however, being formed without the extension at one side thereof. The base 41 of this frame may be engaged in the loop 42 of a suitable clasp or the like adapted for engagement with a stocking.

In Figure 4 a still further modification of the inventive idea is disclosed wherein the frame 10" is formed from a single piece of resilient wire bent to form one side, the ends and the base of a substantially rectangular shape in the same manner as brought out with reference tothe frame 10. Int-his form of construction, however, the branches of the wire are bent laterally to form a neck 44 and then each branch is bent laterally and toward the frame to form the reverse bend 45 and the portion '46 directed toward the base of the frame. Each free end 47 of the wire terminates adjacent the base of the frame to cooperate with this base and the neck 44 to form substantially closed pockets 48. It will be obvious that this form of extension may be engaged in a buttonhole as illustrated in Figure 3 of the drawing or with a loop as illustrated in Figure 1 of the drawing.

From the above it is believed that the structure and use of the invention will be clearly apparent. The fastener may be incorporated wherever it is desired to adjustably secure two members to each other. NVhen the fastener is used as a garment supporter the frame may be adjustably secured to a strap or the like which in turn is fastened to one of the garments. The extension formed on the frame is adapted for engagement with a loop formed on the garment to be supported or with a buttonhole, whereby the frame itself maybe suspended or supported from the garment. Since the extension lies in the same plane as the frame, the fastener will be relatively flat and the resiliency of the wire will maintain the loop portions of the extension adjacent the base of the frame to provide substantially closed pockets from which the portion of the garment connected to the ex tension may not he accidentally disengaged.

While the invention has been described with considerable detail it is to be clearly understood that the description is for the purposes of illustration only and is not definitive of the limits of the inventive idea. The right is therefore reserved to make such changes in the details of construction and arrangement of parts as will fall within the purview of the attached claims.

lVhat I claim as myinvention is:

1. In a fastener, a frame member forme with extensions at one side thereof, said extensions being arranged in the same plane as said frame member and being bent to form a plurality of substantially closed loops, said loops cooperating with the side of said frame member to form a plurality of substantially closed pockets.

2. In a fastener, a frame member formed with extensions at one side thereof, said extensions being arranged in the same plane as said frame member and being bent to form a plurality of loops, said loops cooperating with the side of said frame member to form a plurality of substantially closed pockets, and a fastening. member slidably mounted on said frame member.

3. In a fastener, a frame member formed with an extension at one side thereof, said as said frame member and being bent to form a loop, said loop cooperating with the side of said frame member to form a substantially closed pocket, and a fastening member slidably mounted on said frame member.

4. In a fastener, a continuous piece of wire bent to form a frame, the end portions of said wire being bent to form a neck at one side of said frame and then being bent laterally and then upwardly and then away from said neck to form loops on opposite sides of said neck which cooperate with said frame to form a clamp with the same.

5. In a fastener, a continuous piece of wire bent to form a frame, portions of said wire adjacent the ends of the same being bent to form a neck at one side of said frame, and the ends of said wire being bent laterally from said neck and then toward said frame to form substantially closed pockets on opposite sides of said neck, said ends being wholly in the same plane as said frame.

6. In a fastener, a continuous piece of wire bent to form a frame, portions of said wire adjacent the ends thereof being bent to form a neck at one side of said frame, the ends of said wire being bent laterally from said neck and then toward said frame and then away from said neck to form loops at one side of said frame on opposite sides of said neck which loops cooperate with the base of said frame to form a clamp with the same.

7 In a fastener, a continuous piece of wire bent in a single plane to form one side and the ends of a substantially rectangular frame, the branches of said wire beingbent toward each other from the ends of said frame to form the base of the frame, the branches of said wire then being bent to form a neck projecting laterally from the base of said frame and substantially closed loops cooperating with said base and said neck to form substantially closed pockets.

8. In a fastener, a continuous piece of wire bent to form one side and the ends of a substantially rectangular frame, the

branches of said wire being bent toward,

each other from the ends of said frame to form the base of the frame, the branches of said Wire then being bent to form a neck projecting laterally from the base of said frame, and being bent laterally from said neck in opposite directions and then upwardly and away from said neck-to form a pair of coils on opposite sides of said neck which cooperate with the base of said frame to form a clamp.
