One object of the invention is to rovide, in a mop, novel means for securing the thrums, of which the mop head is composed, to the handle.

A further feature of the invent-ionresides in the provision of a mop, the thrums composing the head of which are secured to the handle in ,a novel manner.

\Vith the above and other objects in view the invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction, arrange ment of parts, and use, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 shows aside elevation of the complete mop.

Referring now more particularly to the drawings wherein like numerals of reference designate similar parts in each of the figures the numeral 1 designates the mop handle to one end of which the mop head is secured, said head being designated generally by the numeral 2. The thrums are secured to the handle end by means of an inside band 3 and an outsideband 4, said bands being of similar construction. Each band is composed of an elongated metallic strip reduced at one end forming a relatively narrow tongue 5. At the other end each strip is formed with an eye 6, referably triangular in form with one apex acing toward the corresponding end of the stri The strip is formed into an encircling band by bending it in circular form and inserting its tongue 5 through its eye 6 and then bending the tongue back into parallel relation with the body of the band, the bend of the tongue being gripped by the converging sides of the eye 6 so as to hold the adjacent ends of the band securely together.

In constructing the mop the thrums are arranged in substantially parallel relation in a body and they may be retained in such position temporarily by the retaining ring as 8. The handle is then inserted lengthwise into one end of the body of the thrums thus arranged, as illustrated in Figure 2 and 1927. serial $5,195,342. H

aeseaaa we wanna is then. secured around the entire head of I the mop, as shown in Figure 1, said outside band 4 being preferably located between the inside band 3 and the adjacent end of the handle 1. The outside band is then secured in position by passing its tongue 5 through the corresponding eye 6 and bending it back as hereinabove explained and as shown in Figures 1 and 5. This ,outside band may be secured to the handle 1, if desired, by a similar use of the nails, as 9, as hereinabove explained.

By the use of the securing bands 3 and 4 of the type hereinabove described and ar ranged and secured in position as stated a mop can be constructed more quickly and cheaply than by methods now in common use and a more durable article at the same time produced. The bands 4 are made of different lengths between the eye 6 and the shoulders 11 formed by reducing the 0pposite end of the band, these lengths depending on the size of themop to be made and in drawing the band around the thrums of the mop head the tongue 5 is drawn through the corresponding eye 6 until the shoulders 11 abut against the opposing sloping sides of said eye thus assuring the required tension on the band, and a uniform tension on the bands of different mops constructed.

What I claim is 1. In a mop a securing thrum band formed of a strip of metal having an eye at one end with sides which converge outwardly, the other end of the band havin a tongue adapted to be looped throng l1 said eye and gripped by the converging sides thereof.

2. A securing band formed of a strip of metal having an eye at one end whose sides converge outwardly, a tongue narrower than the band at the other end thereof said tongue being adapted to be looped through said eye said converging sides forming means for gripping the tongue.

3.
