Description

Patented Feb. 20, 1923.
SAMUEL S. MARLEY, OF WILMINGTON, DELAWARE.
BREAD TOASTEB.
Application filed December f3, 1920. Serial No. 428,069.
To @ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that l, SAMUEL S. MARLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wilmington, in the county of New Castle and State of Delaware. have invented a new and useful Bread Toaster, of which the following is a specification.
It is the object of this invention to pro vide a toaster, the jaws oi' which may be fashioned cheaply out of wire or like material.
Another object of the invention is to provide novel means for assembling a handle with the jaws. l
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices oi that type to which the invention appertains.
With the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, with in the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows in plan, a toaster constructed in accordance with the invention, the handle being in section; Figure 2 is an elevation of the toaster, the handle being in section.
The toaster is fashioned from a single strip of material, preferabl wire, one end 1 of the strip being prolonge to form a loopshaped jaw 2, one side 3 of the jaw being extended to fashion a loop-shaped arm d disposed longitudinally of the end, 1. One side 5 of the arm e merges into 'a second loopshaped jaw 6 cooperating with the irst specih hed Jaw 2, one side 7 of the second j aw 6 being formed into a binder 8 embracing the end 1 and the arm 4. rlhe binder 8 is pro longed to create a helical handle 9 surrounding the end 1 and the arm 1.1-, the arm and said end constituting a stiiener, resisting the lateral bending of the handle 9.
' The bread or other material which is to be toasted is held between the jaws 6 and 2, at the outer ends thereof, owing to the resiliency of the jaws. y
The toaster comprises a pair of cooperate ing resilient loop-shaped jaws, each including a bend and side arms converging to a point of meeting and a handle connected to the arms of both jaws at the point of meeting.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
A toaster composed of a single piece of wire bent to form a loop-shaped jaw with one side thereof extending longitudinali and its inner end bent to form a longitudinally extending loop-shaped arm, one side of said arm merging into another loopshaped jaw superposed on and cooperating with the first mentioned jaw, one side of the second jaw being wound around said arm and end at their junction with said jaws to form a binder, said binder being prolonged and formed into a helical handle encompassing said end and arm which constitute a stiiener for the handle.
In testimony that .l claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL S. MARLEY.
Witnessesi HARRY l. GILLIS, y ELIZABETH S. Manner.
