BRIDLE FOR BROOM HEADS.
Application filed September 4, 1924.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES E. KEYES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Albany, in the county of Albany and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bridles for Broom Heads, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in bridles for broom heads, and has for its principal object to provide a simple and eilicient means for maintaining' the shape of the broom and for preventing the bristles of the brush heads from becoming loose, and eventually falling out.
One of the important objects of the present invention is to provide a bridle of the above mentioned character, which may be readily and easily placed in position on a broom head, means being provided for adjusting the bridle to the size of the broom head upon which the same is placed for preventing the displacement of the bridle from engagement with the broom head.
A further object of the invention is to provide a bridle of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable, and further well adapted for the purpose for which the same is designated.
Other objects of this invention will become apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which like numerals designate like parts throughout the same:
Figure l is a side elevation of the bridle embodying the present invention, showing the same applied on a whisk broom, and
Figure 2 is a detail perspective view of the bridle.
In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral l designates my improved bridle, and the same is formed of a single elongated flattened strip of galvanized metal, the same being adapted to be bent to any desired shape, in order to conform with the shape of the brush or broom head, upon which the same is used.
Serial No. 735,873.
The bridle is adapted to be used upon a whisk broom, a floor broom, a paint brush or the like, and I do not wish to limit myself to the particular kind of broom or brush, with which the bridle may be associated.
One of the free ends of the band or flattened strip is provided with spaced openings 2, while the other free end of the band termihates in the reduced portion 3. the latter being adapted to be bent to provide a tongue e. The tongue is further adapted to be inserted in one of the openings 2, for interlocking engagement therewith, whereby the bridle may be supported on the broom head against accidental disengagement therefrom. The provision of the opening 2 enables the band to be adjusted to any desired size, according to the size of the broom head, upon which the bridle is placed.
Then in position on the broom head, the bristles or straws of the broom head will be maintained in their original shape, the bridle preventing the splitting of the broom head, and thereby prolonging the use of the broom.
The simplicity with which my device is constructed enables the same to be readily and easily attached or removed from a broom head, and will not, in any way, interfere with the use of the broom, when in position thereon.
While I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape, and arrangement of parts, may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit of the invention, and the scope of the appended claim. 't
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
A broom head bridle comprising a band of galvanized metal, one end thereof being provided with spaced openings, the other free end of the band being reduced, said reduced end being bent back upon itself to provide a tongue, said tongue adapted for interlocking engagement with one of said openings.l
In testimony whereof I aliix my signature.
' cHARLEs E. KEYES.
