Description

: Patented Apr. 17, 1917.
L. G. YOUN VERMINTRA APPLICATION FILED 1A r M T 7 m M w LELAND G. YOUNG, OF MUSCATINE, IOWA,
VERMIN-TRAP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed January 15, 1917. Serial No. 142,481.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Lemma G. YOUNG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Muscatine, in the county of Muscatine and State of Iowa, have invented a new and use ful Vermin-Trap, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to traps for catch-, ing vermin such as found in chlcken houses and the like.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide a simple, compact and efficient device of this character which can be applied readily to a roost and which provides hiding places for the vermin where they will con gregate and subsequently be removed and destroyed, the removable portion being simple and inexpensive so that it can be replaced at slight cost.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made with in the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.
In said drawings:
Figure l is a plan view of the device applied to a perch or roost.
Fig. 2 is a section on line 2-2 Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a section on line 3-8 Fig. 1.
Referring to the figures by characters of reference 1 designates an ordinary perch or roost such as commonly employed in chicken houses and the like and arranged thereon near one end is an ordinary nail 2 the head of which is supported above the top surface of the perch. Extending from the'other end of the perch is a stem 3 having a hook 4 at its upper end.
The device constituting the present invention comprises an elongated strip 5 the sides of which are preferably, though not necessarily beveled as indicated at 6, and formed longitudinally within the bottom face of this strip is a channel 7 designed to receive a strip of corrugated paper indicated at 8. Extending from one end of the strip 5 is a forked tongue 9 while extending from the other end thereof is a spring strip- 10 having a terminal eye 11 or other form of finger piece.
When attachingv the device to a perch, a strip of paper indicated at 12 is laid upon the perch, after which a strip of corrugated paper indicated at 8 is placed in the channel 7 'and then on the paper strip 12. The forked tongue 9 is inserted under the head of the nail 2 and the spring strip 10 is placed in engagement with the hook 4. Thus the trap is fastened securely to the perch and the fowls can roost thereon.
Vermin naturally hide in crevices and other inaccessible spaces and, consequently, will enter the spaces between the paper strip 12 and the corrugated strip 8. The strip 12 will prevent them from clinging to the perch 1. Therefore, by disengaging the strip 10 from the hook 4: and the tongue 9 from the nail 2, the strip 5 can beremoved with the paper strips 8 and 12 and said strips 8 and 12 with the vermin adhering thereto can be burnt or otherwise destroyed. Additional strips of paper can then be substituted and placed on the perch as before.
Patented Apr. 17, 1917.
It has been found in practice-that by providing a trap such as described, a perch can be kept reasonably clear of vermin.
What is claimed is 1. A vermin trap including a base strip of paper or'like material, a corrugated strip resting-thereon, and a top strip bearing upon the base stripand housing thecorrugated strip, said corrugated strip and base strip being removable from the top strip.
- 2. The combination with a perch and fastening devices outstanding therefrom, of a strip having a longitudinal channel in the bottom thereof, means upon the ends of the strip for detachably engaging said fasteningdevices, a base strip extending under the channeled strip and resting on the perch, and a corrugated strip removably mounted in the channel and extending longitudinally thereof. I
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
LELAND G. YOUNG.
