Be it known that I, WILLIAM L. Lown, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stuart, in the county of Guthrie and State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Corn-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to devices known as corn hangers and which are used for supporting ears of corn that are to be preserved for seed in such position as to be inaccessible to rats and other vermin and in such a manner as to expose the corn to the air so that it may be perfectly cured.

The invention has for its object to provide a device of this class which shall be very simple in construction and eiicient in operation.

A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this class embodying a body member having means whereby it may be suspended, and equipped with a plurality of racks o-r supports formed of wire on which ears of corn may be supported individually and without contacting with one another.

VVi-th these and other ends in view which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the improved construction and novel arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawing has been illustrated a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily `made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifications within the scope of the claims may be resorted to when desired.

The body 5 of the improved device consists of a strip of wood of suitable dimensions, say four feet in length by two inches wide and one inch thick. The side edges of this strip are provided with V-shaped notches 6 for the reception of V-shaped racks or supporting members 7 formed ofl wire of suitable gage, said supporting members being of such dimensions that the prongs or side members thereof which slant upwardly and outwardly will project several inches beyond the front and rear faces of the body member 5. The racks 7 having been placed in position in the notches or recesses 6, are secured by means of cleats or side strips 8 which are secured on the side faces of the body member 5 by fastening members, such as nails 9. A suspending member consisting of a yoke or clevis l0 is connected by means of a pin o-r bolt 11 with the body member 5 adjacent to the upper end of the latter.

By a slight modification illustrated in Fig. 4, the yoke or clevis, here designated l0, is provided with terminal bent portions forming pins l2 which may be inserted from opposite sides into an aperture in the upper end of the body member where the yoke or clevis will thus be held by its inherent resiliency, providing a simple and convenient suspending device.

It will be seen that ears of corn may be readily supported on the prongs of the racks which project on opposite sides of the device and that such ears will be spaced apart and 'will be safely supported. The complete device may be suspended from a rafter or under the ceiling of a room in such a position as to be entirely inaccessible to rats and other vermin.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is

1. A device of the class described comprising a body member having V-shaped notches in the side edges thereof, V-shaped racks fitted in said notches and having prongs or side members project-ing beyond the front and rear faces of the body member, and cleats secured on the side faces of the body member to secure the racks in the respective recesses.

2. A device of the class described compris ing a body member of rectangular cross section having V-shaped notches in the side faces thereof, V-shaped wire racks seated in the notches and having prongs or side members projecting upwardly and` outwardly with respect to the front and rear faces of the body member, side cleats secured on the side faces and servlng to retain the wire In testimony whereof I aiix my signature 1n presence of two witnesses.
