ABRAHAM LINCOLN SHIPMAN, 0F SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS.
BROOM BRAGE.
Application filed October 25, 1921. Serial No. 510,264.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM L. SHIPMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Springfield, in the county of Sangamon and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Broom Braces, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to attachments for brooms, particularly to braces, and has for its object the provision of a-bracing device adapted to be secured upon an already existing broom whereby to reinforce the same and consequently greatly increase its durability or length of life.
An important and more specific object is the provision of a bracing device of this character which is formed of wire and which may be simply slipped over a broom, portions of the device penetratingly engaging between the straws to serve as retaining means.
An additional object is the provision of a device of this character which will be simple and inexpensive in manufacture, easy to apply, eflicient in use, and a general improvement in the art.
With the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists in the details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is an elevation of a broom equipped with. my device, one side of the broom being shown in section,
Figure2 is an elevation at right angles to Figure 1, and
Figure 3 is a perspective view of my device detached.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the letter A designates a broom of ordinary construction upon which my device is adapted to be used. In carrying out my invention I provide a brace which comprises a plurality of elongated loops 10 of wire, the number being immaterial and ranging pref-- erably from three to six, depending of course upon the length or character of the broom twisted onto the wire loops, as shown at 13,
or which may be soldered if preferred. These wires 12 are intended to be disposed at the edges of the broom and the wires have their ends bent inwardly, as shown at 14:, so that they may be stuck into the broom for holding the attachment upon the broom.
From the foregoing description and a study of the drawings it will be apparent that I have thus provided a simply con-' structed and consequently very inexpensive attachment which may be easily placed upon a broom'merely by slipping it downwardly thereover and engaging the lnwardly extending ends of the wire members within the straw of the broom. It is to be noted that the loops will confine the straw and thereby prevent the broom from spreading out.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is of course to be understood that I reserve the right to make such changes in the form, construction and arrangement of parts as will not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
A broom brace comprising a plurality of elongated wire loops of progressively increasing sizes designed to be engaged upon a broom head and each formed of a single length of wire having its "ends twisted together, and a pair of wire members connecting the ends of said loops and coiled there- I about for holding said loops in spaced relation, the ends of said pair of wire members extending angularly toward each other for penetrating engagement between the fibers of the broom head.
