BRUSH.
Application filed July 23,
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, JOSEPH A. SKOGLUND, a subject of the King of Sweden, residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Brush, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in brushes.
An object of my invention is to provide a flexible brush including va brush member and a Hap thereon adapted to be turned over the brush member and thus fastened to render the article compact when not in use', said .flap being further adapted tov be turned under the brush member and thus fastened to convert the brush into a hand encircling band in which form the article may be conveniently used.
Another object is to supply a brush of this kind, wherein the flap is provided with a pocket to removably receive a mirror, said mirror in'said pocket, in the compact form of the brush, serving to stilfen theflap and render the same effective as a bristle protecting guard.
A further object of my invention is to provide a brush, as above, in the shape of a strip, the opposed ends thereof being provided with companion fasteners capable of swiveling co-action in the band-like form of the brush to permit of different angular relations between the ends of the strip and thereby render the brush self-conformable to the users hand.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear in the following description, the invention resides in the novel combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a brush embodying my invention, the same being illustrated as applied to the hand for use; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal, central section showing the flap as held in bristle protecting position; Fig. 3 is a fragmentary section taken centrally and longitudinally of the brush showing the flap in position to embrace the hand and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the pocket mirror.
Referring to the drawings, it will be observed that my brush includes a flexible brush member A, a tab B extending from one end of said brush member and a flap C extending from the other end thereof. Said 1923. serial No. 653,304.
tab and 'flap carry male and female fastener said brush member A. A pocket piece 14 is sewed or cemented on the inner side of the i flap C and forms a pocket 15 opening at the free end Aofthe flap. Said pocket'accommodates a mirror 16, the same being removably insertable in said pocket. VVhen'the flap C is turned over the brush member A' and joined'to the tab'B through thevmedium of the fastener 10, 10a, said flap lies closely-adjacent to thetips of lthe bristles 11 of the brush member A (Fig. 2). f Th'e'mirror 16, sheathed in the. pocket 15, vstiffens the flap C therebyl protecting said bristleswhen the brush -is 'not in use.- When the flap' lC is turned under the brush member A and joined to the tab B through the medium of the fasteners 10, 10a (Fig. 3), the mirror 16 is removed from the pocket 15 for use as such. In the band-like form of the brush, just described, there is ample space between the back of brush member A and the flap C to freely admit the insertion of a users hand.
The companion fasteners 10, 10a are located on a longitudinal line medially of the article, said fasteners being capable of swiveling co-action. The ends of the tab B and flap C are thus able to assume various angular relations (Fig. 1) and permit of the self-conformation of the brush in band-like form to the tapering outlines of a users hand. Fitted snugly on the hand, the brush may be easily and conveniently manipulated.
Changes in the specific form of my invention, as herein described, may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. In combination, a flexible strip includioo ing a brush member, a tab at one end of said bristles of the brush member when sheathed in said pocket with the flap in bristle covering relation. i
2. In an article of the class described, an oblong strip including a brush member, a tab at one end of said member and a flexible flap at the other end thereof, a fastener member on the tab, a companion fastener member on the flap, said flap being adapted to be turned over the brush member, also beneath said member and joined with said tab in either relation through the medium of said fastener members, said flap in said first relation lying closely adjacent to the tips of the brush bristles to protect the same and to attain compactness of form, and in said second relation being adequately spaced from the' brush member to freely admit the insertion of a users hand between lghe same and the back of said brush mem- 3. In an article of the class described, an oblong strip including` a brush member, a tab at one end of said member and a flexible flap at the other end thereof, a fastener member on the tab, a companion fastener niernber on the Hap, said flap being adapted to be turned over the brush member in bristle covering relation and joined with said tab through the medium of said fastener members, said flap being-ifurther adapted to be turned under the brush member and joined with said tab through the medium of said fastener members to form a hand encircling; bandr` the fastener members being located on a longitudinal line medially of the strip and capable of swiveling co-action to permit of diflerent angular relations between the ends of the tab and flap, whereby the band may freely assume dierent tapered forms to fit various sizes and shapes of hands inserted therein.
In testimony whereof, have signed my name to this specification.
