To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOSEPH A. SKOGLUNI), a subject of the King of Sweden, residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Brush, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to an improved brush.

Its object is to provide an article of this kind including a folder and a brush member flexibly connected and adapted to embrace opposite sides of a users hand, certain portions of the folder being arranged to be held away from the brush member by a hand in place within the article.

Another object is to supply, in an article of the present nature, an extensible and collapsible connection between a portion of the folder and the brush member, whereby the latter may move with respect to the former to permit the ready application of a hand, also to allow for free flexing movements of the brush member within the users hand, and, further, to provide for collapsing the parts to bring the same into compact form, when not in use.

A further object is to provide an article, as above, the brush member being attached to the body of the folder, said body having enveloping flaps at the sides thereof equipped with fastening members to join the same over the working surface of said member, one of said flaps being wider than the other, the wide flap being adapted to be flexed back and thus held by the users hand, said flap supplying a convenient guide for the hand as it is inserted between the body of the folder and the back of the brush member, the narrow flap being restricted in width so as to be flexed back and thus held by the finger tips. In the drawings, Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a toilet article embodying my invention and Fig. 2 is an enlarged transverse sectional view thereof.

Referring to the drawing, it willbe noted that my improvement includes-a folder A, a brush member B and keepers C oining the latter to the former. The folder A, of leather or other suitable material, comprises a body portion 10, a wide flap 11 at one side thereof and a narrow flap 12 at the opposite side. The brush member B comprises a back 13 supplied with bristles or teeth 14. The back 13 preferably consists of several plies of leather. The bristles or teeth 14L consist of fine wire staples, the heads thereof being caught, in the usual manner, by the outer ply of the back 13. The keepers C comprise leather or fabric strips creased longitudinally through the middle thereof. The longitudinal margin at one side of each strip is stitched, as at 15 to one end of the back 13 of said member B, the opposite margin of each strip being stitched as at 16 to one end of the body 10 of the folder A. Said keepers are oppositely arranged so that the creases therein will cause the material to fold, inward like a bellows, between the back 13 and body 10. The

17 and 18. These flaps are adapted to be turned over the bristles or teeth 14 of the member B, in lapping relation, as shown in Fig. 2, the

17 and 18 serving to secure said flaps in such enveloping relation. When the article is not in use, the

11 and 12 are caught together over the member B, said member being held closely against the body 10 of the folder A, with the keepers C collapsed (Fig. 2). In using the article, the

17 and 18 are first disjoined and the wide flap 11 turned back. Said flap 11, in this position, furnishes a guide for the tips of the users fingers, as the hand is inserted between the body 10 of the folder A and the back 13 of the brush member B. Continuing the thrust of his hand, the users fingers flex back the narrow flap 12, which like the wide flap 11 is held, by the hand, away from the working surface of the member B. The flexible keepers C permit of the ready application of a hand to the article and, further, permit of the ready conformation of the member B, to the hand and to the surface to'be brushed.

Changes in the specific form of my invention, as herein disclosed, may be made within the scopeof what is claimed without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:

In an article of the class described, a hand receiving structure comprising a flexible brush member, a flexible enveloping case therefor including a body and foldable flaps at the sides thereof, bellows-like keepers joining the ends of thebrush member with the ends of the body of the case and oo-aoting fasteners on the flaps to secure to the same in lapping relation over said member, said flaps serving, When fastened together,

: to hold the brushmember close to the body of the case With the keepers collapsed, said keepers belng yieldingly self-extensible when the case is unfolded to permit the entrance of a users finger tips between the body of the ease and said member, and ca- 10 pable of further extension to permit insertion of a users hand between said body and said member Without distortion either of the body or member.
