C. B. SHERLOCK ICE SHAVING SCOOP AND CAN OPENER Filed July 30, 1921 ClparZesB Sker Zack Patented Dec. 30, 1924..
UNITED STATES rszrna PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES B. SHERLOCK, 0F BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, ASSIGNOR T0 0. B. SHERLOCK PZITENT INVESTMENT COMPANY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
ICE-SHAVING- SCOOP AND CAN OPENER.
Application filed July 30,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES B. SHERLOCK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the county of Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in an Ice-Shaving Scoop and Can Opener, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in an ice shaving scoop and can opener, and has for .its primary ob ect to improve the construction of such devices which will tend to strengthen or add rigidity to the same.
Another object of this invention is to shape the blade and fasten its ends together prior to attaching it to the handle.
A further object of my invention is to produce a substantially triangular blade, fashion the same to tubular form with the ends on one side overlapping and rivet said overlapping ends together leaving the other end free to form a penetrating point; to produce a handle having an extension for insertion in the blade, the two being fastened together by suitable attaching means such as nails.
With these ends in view, this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth, and then specifically designated by the claims.
In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains, may understand how to make and use the same, I will describe its construction in detail, referring by numerals to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, in which Fig. l, is a side elevation of an ice shaving scoop and can opener embodying my invent-ion.
Fig. 2. thereof.
Fig. 3, is asection at the line S3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. i, is a face view of the blank from which the blade is made.
In carrying out my invention as herein embodied, 2 represents a handle or stick preferably including a head 3, a neck 4, abody 5 and an extension 6, the latter being of less diameter than the body so as to form is a vertical sectional elevation 1921. Serial No. 488,637.
a shoulder '7 against which rests the blade, to be presently described.
The reference numeral 8 denotes the blade which is produced from a substantially triangular blank of suitable metal, Fig. t, fashioned to tubular form with its ends on one side overlapping to practically produce a ferrule and these overlapping ends are permanently fixed together by a rivet 9, the other end forming a penetrating point 10.
The extension 6 of the handle or stock is inserted in the blade and the two fastened together by nails 11, or their equivalent, passing through suitable holes in the blade and penetrating the handle or stock extension.
By constructing the blade as above set forth it is more rigid than if the ends were fastened by a means which penetrates the stock to assist in holding the blade on said stock.
Of course I do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction as herein shown as these may be varied within the limits of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention.
I claim:
1. In a device of the character stated, a substantially triangular blade fashioned to tubular form with the ends on one side over lapping and a rivet passing through the overlapping ends to fasten them together the other end forming a penetrating point,
in combination with a stock having an extension for insertion in the blade, and means to secure said blade to said extension.
2. In a device of the character stated, a blade of substantially triangular shape fashioned to tubular form with its ends on one side overlapping to produce a ferrule, a rivet passing through the overlapping ends for fastening them together the other end forming a penetrating point, in combination with a stock, a reduced extension projecting from said stock, said extension registering with the blade ferrule and nails passing through the walls of the blade and. into the extension to fix the blade on the exten-
