This invention relates. to a. conformator attachment forhats and has for its object to provide a hat with a permanent flexible conformator of improved construction whereby thehat may be made more comfortable for the wearer. a

Another object of the invention is to provide an improved construction and arrangemcnt of flexible conformator attachmentfor hats whereby the but may more comfortably fit the head and which will avoid undue pressure at any one place around the head.

The present invention is directly an improvement on the invention disclosed in U. S. Letters Patent No. 1,362,343, granted December 14th, 1920, on an application for patent filed by me.

In my said patented structure, I employ a flexible band which is interposed between the sweat-band and the interior crown wall which flexible band is held in a floating condition by stitches that pass through the said band at a point thatis spaced from both the upper and lower edges of the flexi ble band. v

That patented structure has proved a die cided advance in conformatorsand meets the requirements up to acertain point, but its structure is such that it is held in place in the hat by a single row of stitching centrally disposed between the upper and lower marginal edges of the band. This single row of stitching permitsthe band to have a freedom at its upper and lower'edges and in some instances it has been found that the lower edge would curl or turn up and produce a ridge at the outer side of the sweatband which ridge becomes annoying to the wearer when the hat is worn.

My present invention therefore overcomes the clitliculty referred to.

on the interiorof the crown 6 and near the liottomthereof, I provide a flexible band 7 which latter ispreferably, but not necessarily, formed of elastic material.

In my prior patent this band is shown as secureclby asingle row of stitching central- 1y disposed between the upper and lower marginal edges of the band, but in this present structure I secure the elastic band by rows of stitching 8 which rows are spaced apart and preferably parallel and engage the band close to the upper and lower marginal edges 9 and 10 of the band. a I

' The flexible band is of a smaller diameter than the diameter of the interior of the crown so that a space or gap 11 will be formed on the interior of the crown between the latter and the band. i The spaced-apart rows of stitching 8 alone sustain the flexible band in that they extend from the latter across the gapor s ace 11 and passthrough the crown wall an thereby ensure that the band throughout its entire width from its upper to its lower marginal edges will always remain in a plane parallel with the crown wall and will not pucker or 3 curl at its edges.

The rows of stitching 8 form upper and lower flexible suspension means between the crown and flexible band and are sufliciently spaced in a circumferential direction to allow the band to yield circumferentially.

The rows of suspension stitches extend horizontally and pass through the crown wall at points that will hold the flexible band in a slightly elevated position with respect to the brim5 of the hat. 1

The sweat-band 12 may be of any wellknown form with or without ventilation means. v

In. the form shown, however, the sweat band has a tape or edging 13, by which it is attached directly to the baseof the crown flexible band from canting and maintains the curve 15 in the sweat-band where the latter passes around the lower edge of the flexible band, and prevents said lower edge from Spreading outwardly or curling up as it frequently does if but a single central row of stitching is employed to secure the flexible band to the crown wall.

Having described my invention, I claim,

1. A hat having a crown and a brim with a flexible band on the interior of the crown wall that is spaced from the latter, said flexible band being attached to the crown wall by plural rows of stitching that extend across the space between said crown and band said rows of stitching holding the flexible band adjacent to both its upper and lower edges to prevent the same from canting and a sweat-band attached to the crown beneath the flexible band and extending beneath and around the lower attached edge of the flexible band and then upwardly at the inner side of the flexible band.

2. A hat having a crown and brim with a flexible band around the interior of but spaced from the crown wall,said flexible band bein attached to the crown wall by upper and lower rows of marginal edge stitches that extend across the gap between said band and the crown wall said upper and lower rows of stitching maintaining the upper and lower marginal edges of the band in a fixed spaced relation with respect to the crown Wall and a sweat-band at the inner side of the flexible band and curving
