Description

April 3, 1928.
R. S. WEHLER l `CIGARETTE CASE ATTACHMENT Filed Feb. 17, 1927 Patented Apr. 3, 1928.
* UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
'RUSSELL S. WEHLER, OF YORK, PENNSYLVANIA.
CIGARETTE-CASE ATTACHMENT.
Application filed February 17, 1927. Serial No. 169,039.
This invention relates to a concealed compartment for packages or cases, such, for example, as a cigarette case.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a concealed compartment which is adapted to be detachably inserted into thev with the sliding closure and arms therefor` which may be slidably inserted into a cigarette case in such a manner that the compartment is located within the lower part of the cigarette case and is entirely concealed from view when a-cigarette package is inserted in such a case.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a slidable closure for said compartment which closure has integrally formed therewith, parallel arms which engage the side walls of the cigarette case and thereby prevent the case from smashing with the consequent damage to the cigarettes therein.
Numerous other objects of the invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art from a reading of the following specification, in conjunction with the drawings at-` tached hereto and forming a part hereof, in which,
Fig. l is a perspective view.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional View.
Fig. 3 is a detailed view of the attachment.
Fig. 4 is a detailed view taken partly in lcross section, and
Fig.`5 is a sectional view on line 5-5 of Fig. 4.
Referring now more specifically to the drawings, A designate-s a compartment provided with inturned marginal portions BV and C. I preferably integrally form arms 'D and E with a closure F, which arms extend upwardly and 'engage the sides G and H, respectively, of the cigarette case I. The inherent resiliency of these arms tend to spread them apart into tight engagement with said case. These arms are preferably provided with recesses J and K near the upper terminals thereof, affording finger grips by the medium of which one may easily draw the same outward, thereby lifting ythe cornpartment out of the cigarette case.
The corner portion of the shoulder and one of the arms is slotted as at L and M affording a guiding means' in conjunction with the inturncd portions of the compartment aforesaid, to facilitate a sliding movement of the closure andl arms relative to the box to gain access thereto. In order to securely fasten the closure to the box, I pro- 'vide a depressed boss N in the lower portion of the closure, which snaps over the top of -the end piece O of the compartment. It
will be seen from the foregoing that this detachable concealed compartment is adapted for many purposes wherein articles are` desired to be hidden from ready inspection, but yet may be always carried on the person of the user and access obtained thereto through a minimum of effort. It will further be apparent that the compartment, in conjunction with the arms of the closure therefor, afford a bracing medium for cigarette cases which ordinarily are made of flexible material to prevent damage to the cigarette case.
It will be apparent to those skilled in the art that many changes in the size and arrangement of the parts may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention, as defined in the appended claims, and that the words herein used are words of description and not of limitation.
v Having thus described the invention, what I claim is: i
1. The combination with a cigarette case, a. concealed compartmentremovably located in the confines thereof, and normally situated in the lower part of said cigarette case, said compartment having a removable closure, and resilient arms connected with said closure and normally engaging the side walls of said casing to secure the same therein, said arms affording a means for removing l the compartment from said case.
2. The combination with acigarette case constructed of flexible material, a concealed compartment removably located'in the lower.
portion of said case, and tightly engaging the interior of the case to prevent injury spect to said cigarette case, said arms, affoi-ding a means for removing the compart ment from said case. Y
3. The combination with a cigarette' case., I
a removable concealed compartment therefor, a slidin closureefor said compartment, said closure aving means to resilientlyrsnap the same in place when in operative position, and means for withdrawing said com-' partment from the flexible case t0 obtain access thereto.
' 4. The combination with a cigarette case of iexibl'e'material and having an open top adapted to receive cigarettes, of aV detachable concealed compartment adapted to be inserted vinto said flexible case through the open end thereofv andutobe located in the a bracing medium for the flexible casing,`
and mensgc'onnccted with said compartment and extending towards the openend of the .casin'g."whereby the compartment may be In testimony whereof I ax my signature.'
