ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN L. MILLHISER, OF MARSHALLTOWN, IOWA, ASSIGNOR OF TWO-THIRDS HIS RIGHT TO JOEL S. EDWARDS AND RANDOLPH F. MARSHALL, OF
SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SACK-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of LettersPatentNo.166,128, dated July 27, 1875; application filed April 17, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN LUTHER MILL- HIsER, of Marshalltown, in the county of M arshall and State of Iowa, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Sack- Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description of the construction andoperation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawi ngs, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a plan View of my sackholder, and Fig. 2 is a vertical central sectional view of the same.
This invention has relation to sack-holders; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of the portable hopper, its sockets and hooks, and the extensible and detachable legs, as hereinafter fully shown and described.
In the accompanying drawings, the letterA designates the hopper or conduit adapted to receive the grain and transfer it into the sack. This .is made in the usual hopper or funnel form. To the lower portion of the hopper, near the discharging-mouth, are attached the suspending-hooks a (1. These are secured to the exterior wall of the hopper, as shown in the drawings. About midway of the height of the exterior wall are secured thereto socketpieces 1), into which the upper ends or tenons c of the supporting-legs B are received. These legs are detachable, and, in order that the hopper may be held at different heights, they are made extensible. Each leg consists of the main portion d and one or more extensions, 6, hinged thereto to fold inward, as slown at g, and provided with bolts h and staples a, to lock the leg in its extended form. When extended, the adjacent ends of the sections of the supporter are made to abut against each other, and the supporter being inclined inward, or in the direction of the weight, the steadiness of the legs is insured.
When in position the sack is suspended by means of the hooks a under the dischargingmouth of the hopper between the supporters.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- The sack-holder consisting of the supporting-hopper A and the inwardly-inclined detachable legs B, having extensions 6 hinged to fold inward, and stiffening-bolts It, substantially asspecified.
In testimony that I claim the above, I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two vitnesses.
JOHN LUTHER MILLHISER.
