PATENT OFFICE.
rATEIok SWEENEY, OF OORDOVA, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN WAGON-STANDARDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 130,881, dated August 27, 1872.
Specification describing a new and useful Improvement in Attaching Wagon-Stakes, invented by PATRICK SWEENEY, of Gordova, in
the county of Rock Island and State of Illi-.
nols.
This invention consists in a novel mode of attaching stakes to the bolsters of wagons, whereby the stakes may be readily renewed or changed, and the connection made more permanent, and the stake more durable, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
In the accompanyingdrawing, Figure 1 is a side view of a bolster with the stake attached according to my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of Fig. 1 taken on the line 90 00.
extends over the end of the stake, and may be made separate from the socket, or a part thereof, as seen in the drawing; or it may be made in two parts, so that when it is desired to use longer stakes the upper part of the strap may be raised. The strap is fastened to the stake by one or more bolts, G, and cap-plate of the bolster O is secured by the surrounding flange H and one or more bolts, I.
By this arrangement it will be seen that the bolster is not cut or'mortised. The stake is driven from the cap plate into the socket, and is readily removed by taking out the bolts. The socket and the cap-plate being firmly united together and the plate securely attached to the bolster by the bolt I (one or more) the stake is well supported without mortising the bolster, and is, consequently, readily renewed or changed, as occasion may require.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The plate 0, having socket D, edge-straps E, buttresses F, and flange H, constructed as described, and adapted to connect the stake and bolster of a wagon, as set forth.
PATRICK SWEENEY.
