Description
JAMES L. GRIFFIN, oF cUssETTA, TEXAS.
'lNlPROl/EMENT IN PORTABLE FENCES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 149,927, dated AprilQl, 1874; application filed December 29, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, JAMES LEE GRIFFIN, of Cussetta, in the county of Cass and State of Texas, have invented a new and Improved fence, of which the following is a specica- Ion:
My improvement in fences consists of halfdovetail projections on the ends ofthe panels, by which the meeting ends of the panels are locked together within a long yoke extending from bottom to top of the panels, and are fastened with a key, the panels being mounted on stakes or blocks, and supported by braces.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved fence, whereof the panels are made of horizontal bars and vertical tic-pieces. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the fence.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
rlhe panels A are provided with half-dovetail projections or tenons B, arranged to match when the ends of two panels are put together, and they are matched within a yoke, C, and secured by a key, D. The yoke is made of two pieces of board, a little longer than the height of the panels, nailed together with a block between them at each end. The panels are set on blocks or supports of any kind, and supported by braces E, fastened to the ground by short stakes F attached to the foot and driven into it, thefupper ends 'engaging the end boards of the panels by suitable nctches G.
The object is to furnish a light and cheap fence, which can be manufactured at the mill', and carried into the field ready' to put up, and which can be readily taken down and moved about as wanted.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The panels A, having projecting tenons B, locked together within a yoke, C, and secured by a key or pin, D, and supported by braces E E, substantially as specified.
JAMES LEE GRIFFIN.
