This invention relates to hair combs and more in particular to combs to be used at the back of the head.

The primary object of this invention is to provide a comb to be used by women while they are changing the style of their coiffure from the so-called bobbed-hair style back to long hair, for the purpose of hiding during the transition the unsightly aspect of the short hair at the back of the head. Another object of this invention is to provide a hairdressing device which is adapted to hold the hair in place at the front as well as at the back of the head. A further objectof this invention is to provide a comb which will impart to the short hair exposed at the back of the head a bulkier appearance. suggestive of a full head of long hair. Still another object of this invention is the'provision of such an article which is ornamental, as well as very efficient, which is of very simple construction and application and which can be manufactured at relatively low cost. Additional features and advantages of this invention may appear in the following description considered in connection with the accompanying drawing which for1ns part of this application, and in which:

Reference being had to the drawing, my invention consists of a comb-member 1 and the holding means 2 whereby the former may be properly secured on the head of the wearer. The comb-member is preferably made of a flexible, non-absorbent material, such as celluloid, hard rubber, sheet metal, or any other suitable and desired material. It consists of a shield 3 and an interior comb 4. The shield is suitably shaped to bestconform to the shape of the back of the head and neck. The comb proper is positioned.

Generally, for the sake of better ap-. pearance, I prefer to make the holding means of astrip of'flexible material 6, such as celluloid, etc., having its ends connected, by means of elastic ribbons 7, to the apertures 5 in the shield. The strip 6 is, of course, intended to pass over the front part of the head, and, if desired, it may be ornamented in any desired manner, as suggested in Fig. 2.

In the device shown especially in Figs. 2 and 3, the comb has substantially the same length as the shield, whereas in Fig. 5 there is shown a comb which is somewhat shorter than the shield, thus leaving at each end of they latter flexible extensions 8. The purpose of these extensions is to conceal the existence of the comb and to permit of a close fit of the shield-ends about the head.

As will be readily understood, due to the tension in the elastic ribbons 7, the free extensions 8 will be bent towards the head and assume substantially the position shown in dot and dash lines, thus hiding the ends of the comb.

When the hair in the back of the head has already reached a certain length, it may be found necessary to provide for said hair additional space behind the shield. This may be readily achieved by giving to said shield the curved shape, in the sense of its height, shown in Fig. 6.

The application of my device is Very simple and will be readily understood, without further comment, by referring to Fig.1. If desired owingto its close fitting about the head of the wearer, my device may be easily used in connection with a hair net (not shown) by women taking part in sports or riding in automobiles, and said device may be applied either over or under the net.

As will be understood, as suggested herein, there may be slight changes made in the construction and arrangement of the details of my invention without departing from the field and scope of the same, and I intend to include all such Variations, as fall Within the scope of the appended claim, in this ap plication in which the preferredforms only 5 of my invent-ion have been disclosed.

flexible .outer shield and a flexible comb formed integrally therewith positioned inwardly of said shield and along the lower edge thereof, said shield being curved in the sense of its height, forthe purpose set forth.
