I BESSIE M. WALSH, OF IBELLINGHA M, WASHINGTON.
EAR PROTEGTOR.
Application filed Febriiary 23, 1926. Serial No. 89,994.
The invention is a device to cover the ears to protect them while having the hair dressed.
The object of the invention is to provide a device for protecting the ears while the tion is to provide a device for protecting the ears while the hair is being dressed which is of a simple and economical construction.
With these ends in view the invention embodies a cup shaped device that is formed to fit over the ear, and a U-shaped spring bar that may be placed under the chin to hold two of the said cup shaped devices over the ears. e
Other features and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description taken in connection with the drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a view showing the device as it would be used. v
Figure 2 is a view looking toward the inner side of the device.
Figure 3 is a vertical cross section through the device.
Figure 4 is a view looking toward the outside of the device.
In the drawings the device is shown as it would be made wherein numeral 1 indicates the cup shaped device that is placed over the ear. numeral 2 the spring for holding the device in place, and numeral 3 the point at which the spring is attached to the device.
The member 1 may be made as shown'with a thin piece of any suitable material having its outer edges rolled as shown and an opening 4 at the forward side which will permit sound to travel through the device so that the person may hear. It is understood that the member 1 may also be made in any suitable shape or design and the roll which is indicated by the numeral 5 may also be of any suitable shape.
T e spring member 2 may be made as shown or of any suitable shape and it will be observed that the ends of this member are pivotally attached to the member 1 as shown a at the point 3. It is understood, however, that the member 2 may be attached to the member 1 in any suitable manner.
It is also understood that other changes may be made in the construction without departing from the spirit of the invent-ion. One of which changes may be in the arrange ment of the opening in the front of the device which makes it possible for the person to hear. Another may be in the use of any suitable material for the device or for the spring wire, and still another may be in the use of other resilient means for holding the device against the ears.
The construction will be readily understood from the foregoing description. To use the device it may be made as shown and described and it will be observed that the members 1 may readily be placed over the ears and when in place will be held against the ears by the spring member 2. The member 1 will positively protect the ears while having the hair marcelled. curled, or barbered. It will also be observed that the device may be readily applied and readily removed and while being used will permitthe patron to hear.
Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
In a device of the class described, ear protectors comprising thin pieces of material shaped to the outline of an ear and flanged at the edges so that the flange will extend around the edge of the ear and to a point behind the ear, said flange having an opening in the forward edge adjacent the ear drum,
and a spring wire pivotally attached to the i said pieces of material and extending under the chin to hold the said devices against the ears.
In testimony whereof she aflixes her signature.
