Description

July 22, 1952 a HELFo'rT HAIR PARTING DEVICE Filed Nov. 2 8. 1950 INVENTOR. [AlV/A 6 52/6077 Patented July 22, 1952 Royal P. C. D.v Inc:, New York, N. K, a crpo- A ration of New York This invention relates toa hair parting device or'applicatorffor home useaswell as for pro-v fessional use in beauty parlors and thelike.v
"It'is'one of the objects of the invention, to
facilitate the manufacture of. a simple and. in-
expensive device which may be made from plasticmaterial-or plastic composition, or suitable metals which are resistant to the. attack from dyes and otherv solutions used .for theproduction of permanent waves for hair.
QIt is another object of the. present be:.-ap'plie'd. to any part of the head (back, top or-sides thereof) to facilitate obtainment of sub.- stantially equal hair strands to be worked upon. ':Yet a further object of the present invention isxto :provide means ensuring theretainment of thmhairpar'ting devicein its position on the headiof a person-whosehair. is tobe treated sov surface contributesto easy insertion and retain-- .ment of ajpin or curler into a set curl and easy retainment of said curl on top of the tooth.
Stillzanotherobject of the present invention is to provide means ensuring sufficient flexibility of.
the teeth of the partin'g'device and, at the same time, reinforcement of the relatively thin walled teeth A still further object of the present invention is to provide means permitting the construction of the .parting device with teeth of varying or adjustable length, sizes or colors to thereby adapt the device. to the individual color of the hair to be treated.
Yetafurther object of the invention isto provide-means afiording ready and easy application to and guidance 1 of the device through the hair during insertion of the: device.
Still another object of'thej'present invention is to provide means facilitating an abutment against the forehead of a person's head for lim- .iting the movement and preventing canting of the device from its required position during manipulation of the hair, and the employment of said abutment as a handle or gripping means for withdrawal of the device from the head without substantially disturbing the treated hair.
With the above and other objects in view, the

invention will'be' hereinafter more fully described and the combination and arrangement of parts. will be shown in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in'the'claims which form part of v the specification. 1
Inthe drawing: I .5
Fig. '1 is a top plan view of the hair parting device embodying the invention.-
Fig'.- 2 isa'front end view of the device of Fig'. .1 with timemeans applied thereto. J I
a Fig. 3- is' an'enlarged sectional view taken along line 3-3' of Fig. 1. Y.
Fig. 41s a sectional view taken along line4-4 of=Fi '.'1.:
I -Fig. 5-"shows Fig. 1 andapplied to the hair of a person.:
- Referring now more specifically to the attached drawing;.there is disclosed inFigs. 1 and -5 a parting device I0 having a body It with. a forwardly andv downwardly extending frontrim l2. Rim I2 is provided with a middle finger or gripping: piece l3 to facilitate insertion of the device Hl into and withdrawal of thelatter from the :hair Land to center said device therein.v
Rearwardly ofbody ll extends a plurality of spaced apart relatively wide teeth or-prongs .15 the upper surfaces of-which are arcuately shaped} as bestseen-in Fig. 3...
Thus, each tooth includes a downwardly ex-v tendingrecess oretrough defined by a curved surface l5a suflicient to *provideenough. stiffness and reinforcement. for the. 1 otherwise relatively thin-walled flexible and. resilient tooth., ..-Each tooth l5 tapers into afree end. piece l6 which The teeth IS-has sufficient width and length to,
facilitate division 'of the hair in substantially equal numberof bunches of hair'strands for the ensuing hair treatment (permanent waving process, dyeing, curling, etc.).
It is further contemplated according to the invention to use different sizes of parting devices with predetermined or adjustable tooth lengths in accordance with the desired location on the head to be treated, and to employ colored or tinted material for the manufacture of the partin:perspective and in a diagram-: matic manner the use of the parting device of] ing device to conform the same to various hair shades or colors.
As will be apparent from Fig. 2 the rim H is somewhat curved in crosswise direction and the teeth l5 are disposed to extend in half-moon shaped fashion from said rim in order to readily conform the device to the shape of the head surface of agperson;v
If thebody' er the device is made eee peeee substance or plastic composition the device can be flexed or otherwise shaped to adapt same to the respective individual head surface (fronte rear, sides thereof) to which the device is'to be applied.
The lateral ends l8, IQ of beet-m are provided with perforations Hm, 19a tofacilitate attachment of tie means 20 thereto which may be in;
the form of a rubber band. n
This tie means, as may be visualized from-Fig: 5 contributes to a relatively firm hold of the 7 device: In. when engaged-fin: the: hair- I41; to-bef partedi and: subsequently treated; ,I hus,. several teeth: (other tuftSbeingxomitted' inFig'. 5 forthe sake of clarity), each tuft having; approximately the same number of hair strands,
V Thehair tufts' are easily guided between adjacent rounded side-"edgeslof neighboringiteeth fore position: on and-deviation to the: surfaceiof: the teeth. 'The teeth [5" are-.also roundedeat 1521 where they. join the rimpbedyxli so-that-thehair 'tufts are smoothly lodged between said tooth:
tions without departure from, the general scope V and spirit of claimfsiY-f 5 r e 1 Having 131 1118 described the invention What is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is: V
