Abstract

A hair-band comb fastener and method for securing sections of hair of a human being comprising a retaining comb with a hair-band attached to its base. The comb base has teeth extending from two sides; a tooth from the first side lines up with a corresponding tooth from the second side. In use, the comb teeth from the first side are placed into a section of hair; the band is stretched over the hair, and the band is secured around the comb teeth. The invention gives the illusion of a plurality of hair sticks secured in the hair all with a single apparatus.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of the Invention
The present invention and method relates to a hair band comb fastener and is a continuation in part to patent application Ser. No. 10/309,926. More particularly it's a hair comb with teeth extending from two separate sides of the comb base, with an elastic band attached thereto.
2. Description of Prior Art
Many people like to put their hair up in various styles. One way to put it up is to use a hair comb or hair band. These items are effective, however I found that combining the two creates a new hair accessory that fastens hair quicker and more secure than a standard hair comb or band.

SUMMARY OF THE PRESENT INVENTION

An object of the present invention is to provide an instrument which is convenient, practical, and inexpensive for use in hair styling.
A further object is to provide an instrument that will keep a single or a plurality of hair sections neatly secured.
A further object is to provide a hair comb that will keep a single band attached to its base.
A further object is to provide such an instrument that can be used unassisted by the individual styling their hair, eliminating the expense of a professional stylist.
A further object is to provide an instrument that can be reused over and over again.
A further object is to provide an instrument that will quickly hold the user's hair up in a neatly secured style without moving.
A further object is to provide an instrument that holds a hair section by combining a looped hair band and a comb, that gives the illusion of a plurality of hair-sticks placed through the hair.
According to one aspect of the present invention, there is provided a comb with a looped band attached to its base. The comb teeth can be arched in a direction away from the user's head so that the teeth ends protrude back out of a hair section after being placed in (or it could be turned the other direction, arched toward the head, so it lays close to the user's head). The looped band reaches substantially from one end of the comb base to the other. The comb base has protruding portions (additional teeth) extending from the base edge, opposite where the comb teeth extend from the other side of the comb base. Each protruding portion is substantially in alignment with a comb tooth from the other side.
According to the arrangement described above, the comb portion is placed in the user's upswept hair. The user then pulls the band toward the comb free ends and secures the band around all the teeth ends to secure. The band extending around the teeth pushes and holds the teeth tips out of the hair section. The protruding portions along with the teeth tips sticking out give the illusion of a plurality of continuous hair-sticks running through the captured hair section.
Accordingly a preferred embodiment, the comb portion, which is made of plastic, has a plurality of elongated arched teeth. The comb base has protruding portions that are aligned with the comb teeth on the opposite of side of the comb base. The band is a loop or semicircle and can be held along the comb base by hooks. The band is held along the comb base so that the band extends from one end of the comb base to the other. It extends substantially from end to end so the band can easily stretch across toward the teeth free ends and wrap around all the teeth free ends. The band when in a semicircle form is just secured toward each side of the comb base.
Other objects, features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following description of the preferred embodiments given with reference to the accompanying drawings.

PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2 of the accompanying drawings, there is illustrated a hair comb band fastener, generally designated by reference numeral 1, embodying the present invention. The hair comb band fastener 1 comprises a first comb portion 2 with a comb base 3 with teeth 4 on a side 7 of the base 3 and with teeth 5 on a second side 8 of the comb base 3 opposite the teeth 4. Each tooth 4 is substantially lined up with a coreponding tooth 5. The comb base 3 can have a plurality of hooks 6 along it so a looped band 9 can easily run along the base 3 so the band 9 can be removably connected. Each end 10 and 11 of the band 9 extends from each side 12 and 13 of the comb base 3.
In use FIGS. 3 and 4, the comb teeth 4 placed in the user's hair. The band 7 placed over the user's hair and attached around the comb teeth 4 to secure. As you can see the teeth 4 ends stick out of one side of the hair section and the teeth 5 extend from the other side of the hair section. The aligned teeth 4 and 5 give the illusion of a plurality of hair sticks running through the hair section.

Such variations are not to be regarded as a departure from the spirit and scope of the invention, and all such variations as would be obvious to those skilled in the art are intended to be included within the scope of the claims,

Claims

1. A hair-band comb fastener for securing a hair section of a human being comprising:

a retaining comb with a hair-band attached to its base; the comb base has teeth extending from both a first side of the comb base and a second side of the comb base opposite the first side; a tooth from the first side of the comb base substantially lines up with a corresponding tooth from the second side of the comb base; the hair band extends substantially from one side of the comb base to the other between the first side of the comb base and the second side of the comb base; whereby the comb teeth from the first side of the comb base are placed into a section of hair; the band is stretched over the hair in the direction of the comb teeth ends from the first side of the comb base; and, the band is secured around the comb teeth from the first side of the comb base; wherein the second side of teeth along with the comb teeth ends from the first side that protrude from the captured hair section after the band is secured around them, give the impression of a plurality of hair sticks secured through the captured hair section.

2. A method of styling hair comprising:

selecting a hair-band comb fastener comprising:

a retaining comb with a hair-band attached to its base; the comb base has teeth extending from both a first side of the comb base and a second side of the comb base opposite the first side; the hair band extends substantially from one side of the comb base to the other between the first side of the comb base and the second side of the comb base; a tooth from the first side substantially lines up with a corresponding tooth from the second side; placing the comb teeth from the first side of the comb base into a section of hair;

stretching the band over said hair in the direction of the comb teeth ends from the first side of the comb base; and, securing the band around the comb teeth from the first side;

whereby the hair is secured between the teeth and the band; and the hair-band comb fastener gives the impression of a plurality of hair sticks secured through the captured hair section.
