PATENT OFFIQE.
RICHARD W. LITHGOW, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
HEADDRESS.
Applicationfiled June 3, 1924, Serial No. 717,621. Renewed March 29, 1926.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in articles for personal wear, and it pertains more particularly to a head-dress.
It is one of the objects of the present invention to provide a new and improved comb adapted for wear by persons having short or bobbed hair.
It is a further object of the invention to construct the comb in such a manner that suitable ornaments may be associated therewith.
It is a further object of the invention to construct the comb in such a manner that the ornaments are readily removable therefrom to permit of various arrangements of ornaments being used at the will of the wearer.
It is a still further object of the invention to construct the comb in such a manner that a cap or head structure may be associated therewith.
With the above and other objects in view, reference is had to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the manner of use of a headdress con-' structed in accordance with the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a detail sectional view thereof;
Fig. 3 is a view in rear elevation of the improved comb with the ornaments removed.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the device comprises a comb substantially U-shaped in cross section, the comb body being designated by the reference character 5. One of the legs of the U-shaped comb is provided with a plurality of comb teeth 7, and the other leg constitutes a flange 8 spaced with respect to the teeth 7 but occupying a position substantially parallel therewith. As more clearly shown in Fig.
3, this flange 8 is provided with a plurality .of openings 9, and these openings constitute means for the attachment of ribbons, beads, or other ornamental articles, the ornamentation being woven through the openings to produce the desired effect.
Secured to the body portion of the comb, between the point of bend and the base of the teeth, there is a plurality of snap fasteners 10, and these snap fasteners are provided for the purpose of attaching a cap structure to the comb, said cap structure being designated by the reference character 12. This cap structure is adapted to enclose the-crown of the head and is provided with an elastic band l i, which extends from one end of the comb around the front of the cap structure 12 to the opposite end of the comb and serves to retain the cap structure in position upon the forehead of the wearer. By means of the snap fasteners 16, the cap structure 12 is readily removed and the comb may be Worn either with or without the same as desired.
From the foregoing it is apparent that the n'esent invention provides an ornamental head-dress in which the ornamentation may be changed from timeto time as the taste of the wearer dictates, and, furthermore, a cap structure may be used in combination with the comb, if desired.
What is claimed is:
A head-dress comprising a comb of substantially semi-circular form and adapted to embrace the rear portion of the head, a headenclosing cap, means for removably securing the cap to the comb throughout the length of the comb, and an elastic the front portion of the cap and serving to provide a head-encircling means for retaining the cap in position upon the head.
