the latter to conveniently hold various accessories, such as curlers, combs and the like, whereby to provide a double utility article helpful in beauty salons and the like during the procedure of giving a so-called cold wave" permanent.
The use of shields, shawls and aprons in barber shops, beautysalons and equivalent establishments is, of course, not new. On the other hand, the provision of an especially designed cape-like shield serving 'as a water resisting and repelling shoulder covering, and including a pocketed bib constitutes, it is believed, a unique article in that by having the various needed accessories, such as curlers, combs, tension eliminators and the like handily and conveniently arranged for the attendant constitute a novel contribution 'to this line of endeavor.
In carrying out the principles of the invention I have evolved and produced a simple, economical and an otherwise desirable article which is appropriate for the intended purposes, aptly constructed for expedient use, and mutually advantageous to the patron and attendant.
Other features and advantages will become more readily apparent from the following description and the accompanying illustrative drawings.
In the drawings, wherein like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout thsame: I
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the combination shield and bib showing one way in which it may be worn by the patron, the same being pictured in a frontal position but normally occupying a hanging position-either to the rear or selectively over either left or right shoulder.
Taking the main or body portion this is of suitable water-repelling and resisting sheet material, such as for example, that which is employed in making of shower curtains and it includes what may be conveniently identified as a shawl or shield portion 5 having a reduced, that is, narrowed pendant portion 6 which I shall describe as the pendant bib. At this point it may be mentioned that all of the parts are properly finished around theirmarginal edges with appropriate binding cloth or material as at I. It is unnecessary, however, to follow the contours or lines of the marginal bindings, these being evident from the drawings and of no particular functional moment except for strength and appearance. I
The body portion 5 has a circular neck embracing opening or hole 8 and a registering V-shaped slot 9 communicating therewith, thus providing the desired yoke-like construction to permit the device to be placed around the neck and over.
the shoulders. It is held in place by companion tapes or ties Ill.
A substantially segmental patch or extra piece of material I I has its lower curvate edge stitched, as at I2, to the underlying body sheet, the stitching occurring somewhat at the junctural portions of the body and bib. The left hand end is stitched completely across and the right hand end is partly stitched down at the points l3 and I l. Additional rows of stitching at somewhat radial or longitudinally spaced points, as at l5 and I6, serveto define a main central relatively large pouch ll and a pair of end pockets l8 and l9. The pocket [9 is-provided with openings at the points 20 and 2! and lends itself highly adaptable for the accommodation of wool crepe, the crepe projecting through the relatively narrow mouthed pockets 20 and 2| so that it can be picked out in small wads. The main pouch l1 serves as a pocket'for large curlers (notshown) The pocket Hi can serve to accommodate combs. The small pocket 22 indicated by dotted lines comes in handy to accommodate one or more 23 and this is formed into expansible and com tractible pleats 21.
As indicated, this is a time saver shield and bib and when commencing the operation of giving the cold water wave it is strapped on and tied so that it hangs down over the back of the patron. Then as the sides of the hair are waved it is shifted from right to left or from left to right to bring the pocket convenient in position over the arms or shoulders of the wearer. Consequently, it serves not only as a protective yoke or shield but also as a practica1 and convenient ways and means of placing at the finger tips the various articles and accessories needed by the operator performing the operation.
It is thought that persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates will be able to obtain a clear understanding of the invention after considering the description in connection with the drawings. Therefore, a more lengthy description is regarded as unnecessary.
Minor changes in the shape, size and arrangement of details coming Within the field of invention claimed may be resorted to in actual practice, if desired.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
I A combination protective shield and accessories accommodating bib to be worn by a patron in a beauty salon comprising a body formed from a sheet of water-repellant material, said body being of substantially elliptical shape with its greatest dimension extending horizontally, but having its lower portion extended downwardly midway its width to form a, depending bib of appreciably less width than the. body, the upper portion of said body being formed midway its width with a neck opening having an entrance slot leading nates well above a persons waist, a sheet of waterrepellantmaterial secured along its ends and lower edge to side edges and the lower edge of said bib, andfree alon itsupper edge and forming a pocket open along its top, and a strip of water-repellant material extending across the lower portion of the body and stitched along its lower edge one end, and at one end of its upper edge, and free along one end and its upper edge, and lines of stiches passing through the strip and the body in spaced relation to the ends of the strip and forming an intermediate pocket over the bib open at its upper end and other pockets of end portions of the bib, one of which is open along its upper end and its outer side.
