Description
Sept. 6, 1955 A. M. MORE FACIAL MASK Filed Aug. 12, 1954 INVENTOR AGA/E5 MUR/EAV MORE 4 idw T//VEVS United States Patentiice FACIAL MASK Agnes Murray More, Laguna Beach, Calif. Application August 12, 1954, Serial No. 449,463 4 Claims. (Cl. 128-163) tomer. Moreover such intense heat may actually be harmful to many womens skins and cause it to become temporarily discolored and/ or to shine.
In an attempt to shield their skins from such heat some women hold a towel over their faces. This not only becomes tiresome but it also prevents the woman from utilizing her hands for reading and/or smoking while she waits for her hair to become dry.
It is a major object of the present invention to provide a new and novel facial mask that may be positioned over the upper portion of the womans face so as to shield the skin of the face from the heat generated by an electric hair dryer.
Another object of the invention is to provide a facial mask of the aforedescribed nature which may be utilized to automatically provide a woman with a partial facial treatment during the hair drying operation.
A further object is to provide a facial mask of the aforedescribed nature which s inexpensive to manufacture whereby it may be discarded after a single use.
These and other objects and advantages of the present invention will become more apparent from the following detailed description of a preferred embodiment thereof, when taken in conjunction with the appended drawings wherein:
Figure l is a perspective view showing the manner in which a facial mask embodying the present invention is utilized during a hair drying operation;
Figure 2 is a rear elevational view of the facial mask shown in Figure l; and
Figure 3 is an enlarged vertical sectional view taken along line 3-3 of Figure'Z.
Referring to the drawings, the preferred form of facial mask M embodying the present invention includes a main body 10 adapted to be positioned over the major portion of a womans face F while the woman is seated underneath an electric hair dryer D. The main body 10 is formed with a pair of identical eye openings 12 and a single opening 13 for the nose and mouth. An elastic band 14 interconnects the opposite sides of the main body 10. This band 14 is adapted to be slipped) about the rear portion of the womans head so as to securely retain the mask M in place thereon. Preferably, a ap 15 extends downwardly from the lower side portions of the main body 10.
As shown in Figure 3, the main body 10 and aps 15 may be formed of a comparatively heavy layer of outside paper material 16 to the rear of which 1s attached a layer of absorbent paper 18. This absorbent paper 18 is impregnated with a suitable cold cream material 20.- Preferably an eye-shield 22, formed of cotton or other' Suitable material, is rmounted upon the rear of the main body 10 above each of the eye openings 12.
In use, the facial mask M is placed upon the upper. portion of a womans face F with the elastic band 14 disposed about the rear of her head, as shown in Figure l. The mask M serves to shield the major portion of the womans face F from the heat which issues from the electric hair dryer, while the flaps 15 shield the front side portions of the womans neck from this heat. At the same time the cold cream 20 contained in the absorbent paper layer 18 will be driven into the pores of the womans face and neck by such heat. This cold cream provides the womans skin with a beneficial facial treatment, the heat from the hair dryer speeding up the blood circulation, driving the oil in the cold cream into the pores and causing considerable perspiration to take place. The dirt contained in the pores will be driven out as the perspiration and cold cream emerges from the pores. Meanwhile, if the eye shields 22 are utilized they Will prevent any cold cream or perspiration from entering the womans eyes. The existence of the opening 13 permits the woman to smoke and conduct a conversation during the hair drying operation, while the eye openings 12 permit her to read if she so desires.
While there has been shown and described hereinbefore what is presently considered to be the preferred embodiment of the invention, it will be apparent that `various modifications and changes may be made with respect thereto without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the following claims.
