Description
J. F. NORRIS TOILET MASK May 3o", 195o Filed June 9, 1947 Patented May 30, 1950 UNITED STATES PATENT F FICE`- TOILET MASK John Floyd Norris, Clinton, S. C.
`ApplcattenJune 9, 1947;` Serial No. 753,595`
3 Claims. 1
This invention relates to new and useful imu provements in toilet masks and the primary object of the present invention is to provide a face mask including novel and improved means for retaining the mask against the face of the wearer.
Another important object of the present invention is to provide a toilet mask comprising an outer layer and an inner layer and means for retaining said layers in position to each other.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a facial mask so designed as to allow a clean and even distribution of whatever medicament or cosmetic preparation carried by the mask to the face of the user.
A still further object of the present invention is to provide a toilet mask that is simple and practical in construction, efficient and reliable in use, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of the outer layer;
Fig. 2 is an elevational view of the inner layer;
Fig. 3 is a rear elevational view of the assembled inner and outer layers in position for use;
Fig. 4 is an enlarged sectional view taken on the plane of section line 4 4 of Fig. 3; and
Fig. 5 is an elevation showing the manner in which the mask is fastened to a users head.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, and more particularly to Figure l, wherein for the purpose of illustration, there is disclosed a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the numeral i represents a substantially fiat outer layer of a suitable pliable waterproof material and having a plurality of spaced apertures I2 about its marginal edge.
Secured to the outer layer l0 and adjacent the apertures l2 are the terminal portionsl of side straps I3, upper straps I4 and lower straps I5.
The outer layer is provided with a plurality of suitable openings I6, I8 and 2D forming the eyes, nose and mouth that oppose the respective openI ings 24, 26 and 28 in an inner layer 22 of ab sorbent material forming openings for the eyes, nose and mouth of a user.
In use for applying medicaments or cosmetic preparations, the inner layer is laid on a flat surface, the medicament or cosmetic preparation (Cl. 12S-163 smeared over it, then the outer layer is placed over the inner layer with the medicament or the cosmetic preparation between the respective layers. The fastening straps i3, lf3 and I5 are then slipped through apertures 3 spaced about the marginal edge of the inner layer, then back again through the apertures I2 in the outer layer and the straps are tied behind the users head, as shown in Figure 5, with the side straps tied to each other, and with upper straps I4 criss-crossed and tied to criss-crossed lower straps I5 thereby retaining the mask in a fixed position to the users face.
The medicament passes through the inner layer and is evenly distributed to the users face.
In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood; however, that even though there is shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A toilet mask comprising an inner layer of absorbent material; an outer layer of waterproof material; said inner and outer layers having openings registering with each other and defining eye openings, a mouth opening and a nose opening; said outer layer having a plurality of spaced apertures; and a plurality of flexible straps; said straps being fixed at one of their terminals to the inner surface of said outer layer and adjacent and inwardly of said apertures; said inner layer having a plurality of apertures disposed inwardly from and adjacent to the apertures in said outer layer; the free terminals of said straps being received in the apertures in the inner layer and the apertures in said outer layer to removably retain said layers relative to each other.
2. A toilet mask comprising an inner layer of absorbent material having an outer edge and a plurality of circumferentially spaced apertures provided in said inner layer adjacent the outer edge thereof; an outer layer of waterproof material having an outer edge spaced outwardly from the outer edge of said inner layer, said outer layer having a plurality of circumferentially spaced apertures therein spaced outwardly from the outer edge of said inner layer and disposed adjacent the apertures in said inner layer; and at least one pair of head engaging straps having inner ends secured to the inner face of said outer layer adjacent and inwardly of the apertures in said outer layer, said straps being received in the apertures in the inner layer and also in the apertures in the outer layer; both of said layers having at least one opening in each layer aligned upon superposition of said layers.
3. A toilet mask comprising an inner layer of absorbent material having an outer continuous'l edge; an outer layer of Water-proof material having an outer continuous edge spaced outwardly of the outer edge of said inner layer; said inner and outer layers having openings registering with each other and forming eye openings, a nose opening and a mouth opening; and a plurality of straps carried by said outer layer; said inner layer having a plurality of apertures receiving said straps; and said outer layer also having a 20 4 plurality of circumferentially spaced apertures disposed adjacent the apertures in said inner layer; the apertures in said outer layer also receiving` said straps whereby said straps and said apertures form retaining means for supporting the inner and outer layers relative to each other and to a users face.
