Application filed January 14, 1926, Serial No. 81,220; and'in Great Britain HAIR. 00MB." Y
This invention relates to hair combs and has for its object to provide. means for use with hair combs which will reduce or obviate the accumulation of dust and sour 5 the base of the teeth f at and will facilitate the removal of dust or scurf collected by the comb from the hair, thereby enabling a clean comb to be available Broadly my invention is of means for use in associationthe provision with a comb for c eign matter such characterized by ollecting or receiving foras scurf or dirt so as to prevent the foreign matter from accumulating between the teeth adjacent the base of the comb.
The preferred embodiment of my invention may broadly be said to consist in the provision of a member adapted to be detachapplied toing an tached edge which when to the comb is in advance the back of a comb andhavthe member is atof the line where the teeth merge or are united to the back of the comb.
In carrying this invention into practice the detachable member is preferably a channel section member adapted to accommodate the back of the comb. The member may be of metal or any other suitable material and is preferably applied by sliding it endwise on to the back of the comb and for this purpose it is preferred that the back of the comb shall be formed with a channel along a correspondingly shaped de of the channel section If desired the back of the comb one side to receive portion on one s1 member.

both sides with one or with correo-operating the channel In order that thisinvention may be clearly understood and re adily carried lnto eifect I have appended hereto a sheet of drawings illustrating an embodiment of same, where- Fig. 1 is a view section member can back of a comb.
Fig. 2 is an end with my invention showing how the channel he slid on to or off the sectional View of a comb applied to it, and

showing the back formed on both sides with channels.
Referring which can be of any suitable configuration is adapted to receive on its back I) a channel section member ozwhich may be of'metal or any other suitable material. This channel section member is preferably applied to the back'of the comb by sliding it on endwise as shown in Fig. 1, and for this purpose the back I) is preferably formed with a longitudinal groove or channel 12' adapted to receive a correspondingly shaped channel, pressed in part; or projection 0 formed along one side of the member 0. The member 0 preferably has a nice fit upon the back I) so that itdoes not accidentally slide off,
' and if desired for-thls purpose the side por- The leading edges 0' of the member 0 extend beyond the point d (Fig. 2) of the comb, this point representing the part of the comb where the teeth a merge into or are united to the. back I).- matter which the comb collects from. the
E NT carrier 1 By this means foreign to the drawings the comb a hair during its use would be deposited on to r the member 0 and would not accumulate between the teeth 0 adjacent the point d as at present occurs with combs. The leading edges 0 of the member 0 are preferably rounded, beaded or curved so that they do not injure the hair.
If desired the member 0 may be formed with a channel or its equivalent 0 on both sides as shown in Fig. 4, the back of the comb of course being correspondingly formed with a channel or groove 1).
To clean the comb it is only necessary to pull off the member a as shown in Fig. 1 and to remove therefrom any foreign matter. The member 0 may be a permanent fixture to the comb but it is preferred to make it detachable.
What I claim is 1 The combination with a comb including a back portion having teeth projecting therefrom, said back portion being of the same width throughout its extent and having a longitudinally extending channel formed in the side thereof; of means to prevent the accumulation of foreign matter between said teeth adjacent to their bases, comprising an elongated member of substantially U-shape in cross section, formed from a single sheet of inherently resilient material having a longitudinally extending portion of one of its arms pressed inwardly to provide a pro-- jection for engagement with the channel in the back of the comb, said member being adapted for removable sliding engagement with the back of the comb longitudinally of the latter with the arms thereof embracing the sides of the back of the comb, and the 10 arms of said member being of such width that they extend towards the points of the comb teeth beyond the bases of said teeth when the member is applied to the comb.
In witness whereof I have signed this 15 specification;
JAMES WYNDHAM MEEK.
