Description

Patented Dec. 7, 1920.
v UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN C. SCHMIDT, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
CURTAIN-HOOK.
1,361,624. Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Dec, 7, 1920,
Application filed January 22, 1920. Serial No. 353,294.
souri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Hooks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is a hook for attaching,
curtains that have been cleaned to a stretcher or frame whlle drying.
In practice a large number of such hooks are used. The operation of removing them so as to take the curtain out of the frame is, therefore, quite tedious.
One of the difliculties attending the tak ing of a curtain out of such a frame is the diiliculty of getting hold of each individual hook for the purpose of such removal, as the hook must be grasped firmly in the fingers and itself taken off the frame before it can be released from its hold upon the curtain.
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, in which like num bers of reference denote like parts wherever they occur,
l igure 1 is a top plan view showing fragmentarily a curtain attached to a frame;
Fig. 2 is a sectional View on the line 2-2 in Fig. 1, looking in the direction indicated by the arrows; and
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of one of the hooks.
The frame 1 may be of any ordinary or desired construction. The curtain 2 may be a lace or net or other kind of curtain.
The prong 3 of the hook 4 extends from an intermediate portion thereof and passes through the material of curtain 2 and holds the same, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
Prior to the present invention, it was quite diflicult to get hold of each individual hook, because the part 5 lay closely against the edge 6 of the frame 1. It was quite hard on the finger-nails of women or others to get hold of this part 5 to pull on the hook to disengage it from the frame 1.
The provision of the projection, bead or tit 7 in this present device obviates this dilliculty and makes it quicker, easier, and more convenient and less painful to, and hard on the finger-nails of, the user to get hold of one of these hooks and to pull it off the frame 1. The bend 8 additionally facilitates taking hold of one of these hooks and likewise resiliently engages the side of the curtain frame to retain the hook in place.
Having thus described this invention, I hereby reserve the benefit of all changes in form, arrangement, order, or use of parts, as it is evident that many minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit of this invention or the scope of the following claim.
I claim:
A hook of the character described provided with a hooked end portion, an intermediate part extending from said hooked end portion and adapted to contact with the side of a frame, said intermediate portion having an angular extension passing around theedge of the frame and projecting outwardly at a point to provide a finger grasping part, the extension being formed with a forwardly projecting angular portion resiliently cooperating with the opposite side of i the frame.
In testimony whereof I hereunto allix my signature.
JOHN C. SCHMIDT.
