This invention relates to a necktie forming device.

One of the main objects of this invention is to provide a practical device whereon a necktie may be readily cleaned and which will stretch and shape the necktie in its original and full form. Another object is to provide a device which is so arranged that it may be readily inserted into and drawn from the necktie without marring or injuring the material of the necktie or the lining therein.

A further object is to provide such a device whereon the necktie may be conveniently cleaned and whereby the same will be evenly stretched to provide rounded side edges and smooth outer end portions by simply drying the necktie upon the device.

By the ordinary manner of cleaning and pressing a tie without a forming device, the opposite edges of the tie are pressed thin and frequently become uneven and irregular; whereas, by the use of the forming devices known to applicant the inserting of the device into the necktie frequently either injures the material of the tie or mars the lining therein and fails to stretch the necktie properly. Applicant has therefore developed the present device which is so arranged as to be readily insertable in the tie without injuring the material thereof or disturbing the lining therein, and which will retain the material properly stretched, and will form it even and also rounded on the opposite edges, as well as smooth at the end portion of the necktie.

These and other objects and advantages will become apparent from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing in which my invention is illustrated in several of its preferred forms; it being apparent that various other arrangements and forms of construction may be resorted to for carrying out the objects and purposes of this invention.

In the drawing:

Fig. 1 is a plan view illustrating my invention applied to a necktie and including a larger and a smaller forming member adapted for stretching and forming the larger and the smaller part of the necktie simultaneously.

Fig. 2 is a plan view of one of the forming members in its normal unapplied position, with its resilient prongs spread apart and bowed outwardly.

Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view taken along line 3-3 of Fig. 2.

Fig. 4 is an enlarged cross-sectional view taken along line 44 of Fig. 1.

Fig. 5 is a partial plan view of a slightly modified form, including means for holding the tip end of the tie.

Fig. 6 is a detailed sectional view taken along line 66 of Fig. 5.

The drawing illustrates my invention in its preferred form of construction, and it preferably includes a pair of similarly constructed forming members, a larger and a smaller one, so as to better fit the larger and the smaller parts of the usual necktie, as shown. With this pair of similar members or devices the larger and. the smaller parts of the necktie can be cleaned simultaneously and retained stretched thereon until dry, thereby assuming and retaining the proper and original shape.

My improved forming device is provided with a pair of spaced arms which are readily insertable in a necktie to extend along the opposite edges thereof. For the sake of economy it is preferably made from a resilient rod or wire, shaped about as indicated in the drawing, comprising a curved and substantially yoke-shaped member including a connecting portion or bight l and a pair -of arms or prongs l I extending therefrom. The end portions l2 of the prongs are bent inwardly, and the main parts thereof are bowed or curved outwardly from the bight ID to the bent ends I2.

With this arrangement the inturned ends l2 facilitate convenient inserting of the device into a tie and withdrawal therefrom without injuring the material of the tie along the edges e or. disturbing the lining l therein; and with this outwardly curving or bowed shape of the arms H, they will when inserted in a necktie bear evenly throughout their entire length against the opposite inner edge parts thereof and assume a substantially straight position therein, as indicated in Fig. l of the drawing.

The device also comprises-means for holding the open end portion of the tie in its proper position. For the sake of simplicity this means is preferably made in the shape of a wire member including a coiled attaching portion l4 whereby it is mounted on the bight l0, and arms l extending therefrom which have their ends bent into curved portions or fingers 16, adapted to engage over prongs I l and clasp and hold thereon the portions at the open end of the tie, as shown in the drawing.

As shown in Figs. 5 and 6, my improved forming device preferably also includes means for holding the tip end of the tie in position, and for the sake of simplicity and economy this means preferably consists of a wire member including 2 an attaching portion whereby it is attached to the coiledportion M on the bight portion I0. further includes a pair of arms 2| extending integrally from coil 20 and having. the ends curved 'to provide hands 22'for clasping the tip end of the sharp and irregular edges as are otherwise formed by cleaning and pressing the necktiewithout the use of such improved device. c g

I claim:

I 1. A necktie forming device comprising a substantially yoke-shaped resilient member including a pair of prongs bent slightly inwardly at their forward ends to be readily insertable into a necktie without marring the material thereof or the lining therein, said prongs'pressing yieldably outwardly against the opposite edges of the necktie to hold it stretched and facilitate cleaning thereof, and a member mounted on the bight of the yoke and having resilient means to press and hold the side parts adjacent the end of the necktie onto the prongs of the holder.

' 2. A necktie forming device comprising a curved member including a bight portion with a pair of spaced arms adapted to be inserted into a aosens necktie and press against the opposite side edges thereof to hold the necktie in position, and means on the bight portion of the device for engaging an outer tip of the necktie and holding it in proper position.

3. A necktie forming device comprising a curved'resilient wire member including a bight portion having a pair of spaced prongs thereon bent slightly inwardly at their forward ends to f be readily insertable into a necktie, said prongs pressing outwardly against the opposite side edges of the necktie to hold it stretched, a wire member coiled on the bight portion and having its outer ends arranged to cooperate With'said prongs for holding the two side portions'near the end of the necktie therebetween, anda member on the bight portion including a pair of hands for clasping the tip end of the tie therebetween and holding it in position.

4. A necktie forming device comprising a curved member includinga pair of spaced arms adapted to be inserted into a necktie and press against the opposite side edges thereof to hold the necktie in position, and means on an outer part of the'device for engaging an outer portion of the necktie and holding it in proper position, said curved member having its spaced arms arranged v 7 so as to have a substantially U-shape, the ends of said arms being normally spaced from each other a distance substantially greater than the width of the part of the tie. in which they are inserted and being when inserted flexed towards each other to be placed under tension to bear yieldably against oppositeside edges of the tie.
