P. G. JURICH COMB Filed Feb. 20, 1928 Juq Patented Apr. 9, 1929.
PATENT OFFICE.
PETER G. JURIOH, 0F PASADENA, CALIFORNIA.
COMB.
Application filed February 20, 1928.
My invention relates to combs, and more particularly to a comb provided with a guard member adapted to hold loose hairs, dandruff and the like and prevent it from falling on to the clothing during the combing of the hair.
In order to explain my invention, I have shown one practical embodiment thereof on the accompanying sheet of drawings, which I will now describe.
In the drawings, Fig. 1 is a plan view of a comb embodying my invention, showing the guard member swung into an extended position for freeing loose hair and dandruff after use of the comb; and
Fig. 2 is a sectional view through a comb embodying my invention, and showing its position relative to the hair in use.
Referring now more in detail to the drawings, ldesignates the backbone, with the teeth 2. A guard member 3, of U-shape with one side 3 longer than the other side 3, said longer side being adapted to overlie the teeth of said comb at their attached ends, substantially as shown, with the free ends of the teeth projecting from under said guard. In the present form of the guard, I have shown it pivotally connected at 4t,
to said comb, whereby it can be swung away from the comb so as to free the loose hair after it has been used.
In use, the comb moves through the hair in the usual manner, but the overlying guard member 3 catches the loose hair, which lodges between said guard member and the teeth of the comb and thus is prevented from falling on to the clothing. The loose hairs are shown lapping back over the top of the guard member, with their other ends folded back under said guard member, and as there is space between the underside of the guard member and the teeth and backbone of the comb, the loose hairs and dandruff are readily retained and prevented from falling from the comb until it is opened up, as illustrated in Fig. 1.
Serial N0. 255,625.
While I have shown one practical form of my invention, with the guard member pivotally connected, I do not limit the invention to the details shown, except as I may be limited by the hereto appended claims.
I claim:
1. A comb having a back bone and teeth projecting therefrom and a guard pivotally connected thereto at one end and overlying the back bone and the attached end of said teeth, with the free ends of said teeth pro jecting therefrom, whereby as said comb is run through the hair with said guard over said teeth, the hair passes under said guard between said teeth and loose hair is held by said guard.
2. A comb having a back bone and teeth projecting therefrom and a guard member pivotally connected to one of said comb and adapted to fold around the back of said back bone with one side of said guard overlying said back bone and said teeth for a portion of the length of said teeth, whereby as said comb is run through the hair with overlying portion over the teeth, the hair passes between the teeth and under said guard and said guard. holds loose hair.
3. A comb having a flat back bone and teeth projecting from one edge thereof and a hair guard of flat sheet material folded to U-shape in. cross section with one side wider than the other side and applied to the backbone of said comb withthe longer side over lapping the backbone and the teeth and with the shorter side underlapping only the backbone, whereby hair moving under said longer overlapping side of said guard lodges between it and said teeth, substantially as shown( Signed at Pasadena, Los Angeles County, California, this 14th day of February, 1928.
