UNITED STATES- HERBERT WATKINS JOHNSON, OF LONDON, ENGLAND.
HAR-WAVING DEVICE.
Application led May 3, 1926,- Serial No. 105,259, and in Great Britain August 2.7, 1925.
T his invention relates to hair waving devices and has for its object to provide an improved device applicable for setting the l v'r in a wave during the process known as water waving.
According to my invention the hair wav ing device comprises a pair ot combs movably connected in suoli a manner that when folded together in the hair the two sets ot comb teeth cooperate in forming a ridge or wave of hair.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating a preferred embodiment oit' the invention Figure l is a 'front view of the device with the combs in their closed position,
Fig. 2 is top view thereof; and,
Fig. 3 is a front view showing the combs in open position.
ln carrying the invention into eti'ect according to the preferred form the improved hair waving device comprises a pair of combs l-2 curved in the direction of their length to approximate to the curvature of the head and. connected at one end by a pivot or hinge 8 allowing partial rotary movement of either comb relatively to the other. rihe combs are disposed and connected in suoli a manner that when closed the teeth i oi' one comb rest in the spaces between the teeth 5 of the other comb, both sets oifteeth lying approximately in the same plane. To maintain the combs in this position against unintentional displacement when the device is in use the end of each comb remote from the pivot is formed with a hook and the two hooks 6*? thus Jformed being oppositely directed ena-ble the combs to be secured together when in their closed position by causing the hooks to engage.
The mode of using' the device above described is as follows:-
The combs are opened to the extent of approximately a right angle and one of them is inserted in the hair which has been previously damped, this comb. being held in position whilst the second comb is inserted in the hair and moved towards the iirst comb. Then the two combs interengage in their closed position a wave or ridee of hair is 'formed above and between them and the combs are'locled together by enga-ging the hooks at their i'ree ends. The combs are lelt in this when they are removed leaving a wave in the hair at the position which they have occupied.
The device above described may be made in any material suitable ior the manufacture ot combs and having the requisite degree oit iiexibility such as Celluloid, casein products, gallolith or metal.
lt is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the exact details of construction above described as modifications may be made therein,.for example, by em ploying securing means other than the pair ot hoolrs described.
What I claim is:
l. A hair waving device comprising a pair oit' combs pivotally connected together at one end and termed with interengaging hooks at their opposite ends, each of said combs being curved in the direction of length and having interiitting teeth.
2. A hair waving device comprising a pair of combs pivotally connected together at one end and provided at their` opposite ends with means for fastening the combs in`their closed position, each of said combs being curved in the direction of length and having intertltting teeth. f
A hair waving device comprising a pair ofy combs pivotally connected together at one end `tor relative swinging movement` each ot said combs being curved in the di# rection ot length and `having interfitting teeth lyingl substantially in the same plane.
