COMB STRUCTURE Filed July 16, 1937 650/965 14. .Smwow ATTORNEYS Patented Jan. 10, 1939 UNETED STATES sear 5 Claims.
This invention relates to an improved comb structure.
It is among the notable features and advantages of the present invention to provide a type of comb structure having associated therewith means for smoothing down the hair after passage of the comb therethru.
It is advantage of the present invention that the means provided for smoothing down the hair contain no moving elements, nor grooves or the like wherein the hair can become entangled.
It is another feature of the device that it is readily cleaned after use.
Other important features of the device according to, the present invention are that it is formed of a single mass of material, it is simple and inexpensive to manufacture, and not readily broken during normal course of use.
The invention will be fully and comprehensively understood from a consideration of the following detailed description when read in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms part of the application.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device according to the present invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view at Figure 1; and
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view of Figure 1, taken along the line 33.
Referring to the drawing, 5 designates a comb of the conventional type having handles generally designated as 8, disposed at the ends thereof and formed to fit the hand. A grooved structure generally designated at 6 is formed integral with the comb 5 and is disposed in a manner adapted to conform with the general contour of the head of a person using the comb. The ends of the structure 6, generally designated at l, are bent down substantially below the general level of the accessory structure so that as the comb is passed thru the hair a smoothing down action will take place as the member 6 passes thereover. It is preferred that the member 6 be relatively thin in order to possess a certain amount of resilience which will facilitate conformity with irregularities in the head of the person using same.
In use, the comb is positioned in the hair and passed thru same so that the member 5 passes thru the hair first and the member 6 follows, thereby exerting a smoothing action upon the hair.
It is to be understood that this improvement is capable of extended application and is not confined to the exact showing of the drawing nor to the precise construction described and, therefore,
such changes and modifications may be made therein as do not affect the spirit of the invention nor exceed the scope thereof as expressed in the claims.
What is claimed as new is:
1. A device of the character described comprising a comb having a back and teeth, and having an arcuately curved, smooth and imperforate member associated with said back, said member being disposed substantially perpendicular relative to the teeth of said comb and being adapted to fit an area of the human head when positioned adjacent thereto whereby, when the comb is passed thru hair on the head, the cooperating member will exert a smoothing action on the combed hair.
2. A device of the character described comprising a comb having a back and teeth formed integral with said back, handle elements formed of portions of said back and disposed at the ends thereof, and having an arcuately curved, smooth and imperforate member associated with said back, said member being disposed substantially perpendicular relative to the teeth of said comb and being adapted to fit an area of the human head when positioned adjacent thereto whereby, when the comb is passed thru hair on the head, the cooperating member will exert a smoothing action on the combed hair.
3. A device of the character described comprising a comb having a back and teeth formed integral with said back, handle elements formed of portions of said back and disposed at the ends thereof, and having an arcuately curved, smooth, and imperforate member associated with said back through union near the midpoints of said member and said back, said member being. disposed substantially perpendicular relative to the teeth of said comb and being adapted to fit an area of the human head when positioned adjacent thereto whereby, when the comb is passed thru hair on the head, the cooperating member will exert a smoothing action on the combed hair.
i 4. A device of the character described comprising a comb having a back and teeth formed integral with said back, handle elements formed of portions of said back and disposed at the ends thereof, and having an arcuately curved, smooth, imperiorate and essentially resilient member associated with said back through union near the midpoints of said member and said back, said member being disposed substantially perpendicular relative to the teeth of said comb and having the ends thereof at least slightly curved in a manner adapted to fit an area of the human head when positioned adjacent thereto whereby, when the comb is passed thru hair on the head, the cooperating member will exert a smoothing action on the combed hair.
5. A device of the character described comprising a comb having a back and teeth formed integral with said back, handle elements formed of portions of said back and disposed at the ends thereof, and having an arcuately curved, smooth 10 imperforate and essentially resilient member associated with said back through union near the
