I I BY 1 v 1/ A TTORNEYS.
Patented Dec. 26, 1939 UNITED STATE$ PATENT OFFEQE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a combined hair comb and brush, the primary object of the invention being to provide a combined hair comb and brush constructed in such a way that the hair may be combed and brushed with one operation.
An important object of the invention is to provide a comb wherein the teeth thereof are constructed so that brush bristles maybe secured thereto, providing a brushing surface embodying spaced rows of bristles which will permit the brush to be readily cleaned by holding the combined brush and comb under a spigot.
Another object of the invention is to arrange the bristles in such a way that the bristles will not interfere with the combing operation, nor will the teeth of the comb interfere with the use of the device as a brush.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein described, may 2 be made within the scope of what is claimed,
Without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of the combined 30 comb and brush constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is an elevational View of the opposite side of the combined comb and brush, illustrating the brush bristles as secured to the teeth of the 35 comb.
Figure 3 is an edge elevational view of the combined comb and brush.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Figure l.
40 Figure 5 is a sectional view through the combined comb and brush and illustrating the position of the bristles and teeth of the comb with respect to the surface being combed.
Figure 6 is a sectional view through the comb 4:; illustrating the position of the bristles, when the device is being used to comb and brush the hair at one operation.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the body portion of the combined comb and brush is indi- (Cl. 1s2- ss) cated by the reference character 5, the body'portion having an integral handle at one end thereof. The teeth of the combined comb and brush are indicated by the reference character 1, and as shown, these teeth are substantially wide at 5 points adjacent to the outer or free ends thereof,
reducing the Space between the teeth, and at the same time providing wide surfaces for the reception of the bristles, forming the brush.
The bristles are indicated bythe reference char- 10 acter 8, and extend to the free ends of the teeth "I, as clearly shown by Figure 2 of the drawmg.
The bristles adjacent to the outer or free ends of the teeth are substantially short, and are gradually increased in length towards the body portion of the combined comb and brush, as shown by Figure 5 of the drawing.
Due to this construction, it will be seen that when the combined comb and brush is being used in combing the hair and is held in a position or angle with respect to the scalp or head, as shown by Figure 6, the hair will be combed and brushed at one operation. 7
Should it be desired to use the device as a comb, the body portion is held in a more upright position, as shown by Figure 5, whereupon the teeth alone contact with the hair. 7
By holding the body portion with the side faces of the teeth in horizontal positions, the device may be used as a hair brush, to brush the hair after combing,
In this invention, it will be seen that the bristles extend from onlyv one side of the teeth of the comb, to the end that the opposite surfaces of the teeth may be used in combing the hair without contacting the hair with the bristles or brush.
I claim:
A combined comb and brush comprising a body portion including a handle, teeth extending from the body portion, said teeth being wide at their free ends and narrow at points adjacent to the body portion, bristles extending from the teeth, said bristles covering substantially two-thirds of the lengths of the teeth, and the bristles being substantially short at points adjacent to the free ends of the teeth and gradually increasing'in length towards the handle.
PETER CI-IIRAELLO.
