Description

Patented Oct. 18, 1927.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM HENRY KENYON, OF ACCRINGTON, ENGLAND, ASSIGNOR T ENTWISLE KENYON LIMITED, OF ACCRINGTON, ENGLAND.
CARPET SWEEPER.
Application filed October 22, 1923, Serial No. 670,038, and in Great Britain November 7, 1922.
This invention relates to combs or clearers for the rotary brushes of carpet sweepers such as described in the specification of British Patent No. 26003 of 1913 for clearing or removing from the brush, hairs, fibres, or threads which have a tendency to lap round the brush.
In the specification No. 26003 of 1913 there is described an appliance attached to a block or bar affixed to the underside of the casing with depending blades or teeth to enter between the bristles of the brush as it rotates to engage with and sever any hairs or threads lapped thereon.
The object of the present invention is to provide means whereby the clearing device may be attached to the block or bar on the underside of the casing, and it consists in the combination with the sweeper case of a toothed clearer stamped from a strip of thin metal to engage the brush of the sweeper andt provided at each end with a metal attaching bracketstamped integral therewith and bent or pressed over upon itself and the end of a block or bar, or which metal bracket is interposed between the clearer and the casing and secured direct to the underside of the casing.
The invention will be fully described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Fig. l. is a longitudinal section through sweeper showing clearer c attached to a block or bar E by metal attaching brackets D.
Fig. 2. is a plan of clearer c and block E from the underside.
Fig. 3. is a section (enlarged) of clearer c and block E.
Fig. 4. is an end elevation of Fig. 3. Fig. 5. is a perspective view enlarged. Fig. 6. is a perspective view of clearer c att-ached to a block or bar E by the metal attaching bracket D3.
Fig. 7. is an end elevation of same.
Fig. 8. is a perspective view of clearer c attached to a rectangular block or bar E by the metal attaching brackets D3.
Fig. 9. is an end elevation of same.
Fig. 10. is a side view of saine.
The sweeper case A and the brush B are of the ordinary form and construction and the clearer c is as described in specification N o. 26003 of 1913.
In the form of the invention shown in Figs. 1 to 5 the block E is rigidly affixed to the casing A and a metal attaching bracket D is formed on the end of the clearer c by which to affix it to the block or bar E. The metal attaching bracket is formed integral with the clearer, being stamped out of the same metal strip in the form of a projection which is bent over to embrace the end of the block or bar E.
In the form shown in Figs. 6 to 10 the brackets D3 are formed at the sides of the clearer 0 integral therewith. The brackets D3 pass around the sides of the block or bar E or E1 and are secured thereto.
What I claim as my invention and desire to protect by Letters Patent is In a carpet sweeper having a case, a horizontal cylindrical brush, a toothed metal clearer positioned above said brush, a metal attaching bracket positioned at each end of the clearer and integral therewith and bent over upon itself to form a rigid attaching member, and a block on the underside of the case to which the attaching brackets are aiixed.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
WILLIAM HENRY KENYON.
