ASSIGNOB TO BEEINISCHE G'UI- 'UND CELL'ULOID-FABBIK, OF MANNHEIM-NECKARAY, GERMANY, A CORPORATION OB GERMANY HAIR COMB Application filed July 8',
This invention relates to improvements in hair combs and more particularly to the type of hair comb formed with grailles or indentations in the spaces between the comb teeth.
As heretofore formed, such hair combs have had sharp edges or corners between the comb teeth. This makes it very difficult to clean the comb thoroughly as dirt and grease gathered by the teeth will be caught on the sharp 39 edges or corners and will lodge in the spaces between the teeth.
One of the objects of my invention is to overcome this objection by the provision of a comb formed with rounded portions in the spaces between the comb teeth, which rounded portions have curved sides that merge into the back of the comb and into the base portions of the comb teeth, thus forming harmoniously curved portions between the comb teeth and eliminating all objectionable sharp edges and corners. A comb so constructed may be cleaned easily and all dirt or grease may be readily removed from the spaces between its teeth. A further advantage of my improved comb is that it may be drawn smoothly through the hair without danger of pulling or tearing the hair.
Other features and advantages of my invention will appear from the following description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of one form of hair comb embodying the invention, and,
Fig. 2 is a vertical section thereof taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Referring now to the drawings, the comb which I have used for the purpose of illustration is of the kind commonly known as a dressing comb having both coarse and fine teeth. The invention, however, may be applied to any kind of hair comb, having both coarse and fine teeth or formed entirely with coarse teeth or entirely with fine teeth. The comb is made of any suitable material, preferbaly, celluloid, and has the usual back 1, integral comb teeth 2, and an integral tooth band 3 having portions extending between the comb teeth.
According to my invention, the tooth band 3, as clearly shown in Figure 2, is formed 1931. Serial No. 549,365.
with a rounded edge 4 and with curved or concaved sides 5 between each pair of teeth 2, said concaved portions forming grailles or indentations between the base portions of adj acent teeth. The side portions 5 of the tooth band flare upwardly and outwardly and merge into the sides 6 of the back and into the base portions 7 of the comb teeth, which teeth preferably have rounded base portions or may be rounded throughout.
By the provision of a tooth band of this form, I avoid the formation of any sharp edges or corners and provide a comb having a harmoniously curved tooth band which comb can be cleaned easilv and may be smoothly drawn through the hair. The tooth band also serves to reenforce the base portions of the comb teeth and provides a strong and durable construction.
It is to be understood that modifications in the details of the constructionherein illustrated and described may be made without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
What I claim is 1. A hair comb comprising a back, comb teeth and a tooth band, said tooth band having a transversely rounded lower edge and curved sides flaring upwardly and outwardly between the base portions of adjacent teeth 30 and merging into the sides of the back.
2. A hair comb comprising a back, rounded comb teeth and a tooth band, said tooth band having a transversely rounded lower edge and curved sides flaring upwardly and outwardly between the rounded base portions of adjacent teeth and merging into the sides of the back and into the rounded base portions of the comb teeth.
Signed at Mannheim-Neckarau, Germany 90 in the county of Mannheim and State 0 Baden, this 29th day of April A. D. 1931.
