RECEPTACLE.
Application led August 28, 1925.
This invention relates, generally, te receptacles, cases or boxes, such as are carried in 'the pocket of a garment, and which are adaptedto be put to various uses, and more 6 especially for use as cigarette and match-receiving cases or boxes.
The present invention has reference, more particularly, to that class of receptacles, cases or boxes, comprising a body consisting 1U of a pair of hinged body-members and a hinged cover or lid therefor, having in view several novel features of construction, and especially a novel construction of hinge-connections, to provide a case or box, when the several parts thereof are in their closed relation, the various outer face-portions of which will be smooth and will have none of the objectionable portions which are apt to cause wear and tear of the pocket of the garment when the device is carried in the pocket.
Other objects of the present invention not at this time more particularly enumerated will be more fully understood from the following detailec description of the present invention.
lilith the various objects of the present invention in view, the said invention consists, primarily, in the novel case or box, for cigarettes, matches and other uses, and hereinafter more fully set forth, and, the said invention consists, furthermore, in the novel arrangements and combinations of the various devices and parts, as well as in the details of the construction of the said parts, all of which will be more fully described in the following specification and then finally embodied in the clauses of the claims, which are appended to, and which form an essen- 1" tial part of the said specification.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a perspective view of a case or box made according` to the principles of 4o the present invention, showing the hinged lid or cover hereof in its opened relation to the body of the receptacle; and Figures 2 and 3 are views of the front and rear faces of the receptacle, the various parts of the ease or box being represented in their closed relation to each other.
Figure 4 is a side eleva-tion of the receptacle, looking in the direction of the arrow ai, in Figure 2; and Figure 5 is a similar view ofthe receptacle, With the various parts Serial No. 52,987.
thereof relation.
Figure 6 is a transverse vertical section of the receptacle, said section being taken on line 6 6 in said Figure 2, looking in the direction of the arrow w; and Figure 7 is a similar sectional representation of the opened parts of the receptacle.
Figure 8 is a transverse vertical section, taken on line 8 8 in said Figure 2.
Similar characters of reference are einployed in the said above described views, to indicate corresponding parts.
Referring now to the said drawings, the reference-character l indicates a complete receptacle, case or box made according to the principles of the present invention, the same comprising a main body which consists, essentially of two bodynmembers, having a brealable or opening-out relation, and` to one of which members is hinged a cover or lid-section. The reference-character 2 indicates a plate-like member which is formed at its sides with right-angled flanges or side-walls 3, the respective endportions of the said flanges or walls being preferably curved, as at 4l and 5. The said flanges or side-walls are also of width at their ends 6, than at their ends 7, as shown. Atthe edge-portion of the member 2, located between the narrow end-por@ tions 7 of the said flanges or side-walls 3, the said member 2 is marginally curved, as at 8, see Figures 6 and 7, this curved portion corresponding to the curvature 4 of the said end-portion 7, and extending inwardly from said curved portion S, between said iianges or side-walls 3 is a retaining member or lip 9. As shown in the drawings, the length of the said member or lip is slightly less than the width of the member 2, between the inner faces of the flanges or side-walls 3, to provide suitably placed narrow openings or slits 10, for the purposes to be presently more fully set forth. At its opposite marginal edge-portion, between the end-portions 6 of the flanges or side-walls 3, the member 2 is made with an inwardly projecting and laterally extending olf-set 11, and aforwardly projecting and laterally extending stop-lip, as 12. Slits or narrow openings 18 are also provided between the ends of said lipand a portion of the body 2, and the inner faces of the flanges or side-walls 3, substantially as indicated in Figure 3 of -the drawings.
being illustrated in their opened greater ico The reference-character 14 indicates a plate-like member of the other herein-above mentioned body-member which is also formed at its sides with right-angled flanges or side-walls 15, the said flanges or walls, at their end-'portions 16, being preferably curved, as at l?. VThe end-portions 18 of the said flanges or walls 15 are of less widthk than the said end-portions 16, substantially as shown in the several figures of the drawings. rt their narrow end-portions 18, the said flanges or side-walls 15 are made with inwardly extending off-sets, as y19, from which project suitably formed pintle-receiving ears 2O whici are arranged in the slits or openings 13, and extend along the inner faces of the flanges or side-walls 3, pins or rivets 21 being employed for hingeing or pivotally connecting the plate-like member 14 to the plate-like member 2, as will be evident. At its opposite edge-portion the member 14 is curled over, as at 22, thus providing an end-closure for the main body of the receptacle, case or box.
lf desired, the flanges or side-walls l of the plate-like member 2 may be provided with inwardly extending marginal retaining lugs 23.
The reference-character 24 indicates a suitably shaped plate which is marginally cut away at one end portion, as at 25, and is formed with pintle-reeeiving ears 2G, bent at right angles to the plane of the plate 24, said ears being arranged in the slits or openings 10 of the plate-like member 2, and eX- tending along the inner face-portions of the flanges or side-walls 3, pins or rivets 27 being employed for hingeing or pivotally connect-ing the said plate 24 to the plate-like member 2. At its opposite laterally extending marginal edge the said lid or coverplate 24 isv curled over in a suitable manner so as to provide a hook-shaped edge-portion 28, which is readily sprung beneath the marginal edge 29 of the curled portion 22, to maintain a closed relation of the lid or cover with the main body of the receptacle, case, or box, with the several members of the device readily secured in their closed relation, as will be readily understood from an inspection of Figures 2, 3, 4 and 6 of the drawings. The opened position of the several members, indicated in Figures 1, 5 and 7 of the drawings, is readily produced by moving the members in the directions of the arrows y and s, shown in said Figure 5.
From the foregoing description, and from an inspection of the several figures of the drawings, it will be seen, that by means of the construction and arrangement of the several parts, and especially by placing the pintle-ieceiving ears vupon the inside of the receptacle, case, or bon, that there are no ebject'onable obstructing parte upon the outer surfaces of the receptacle, ease or box, 'thus clearly minimizing any wear and tear of the pocket of the garment when carried in the pocket.
Of course, l am aware that some changes may be made in the general arrangements and combinations of the several devices and parts, well as in the details of the construction of the said parts, without departing from the scope of the present invention,
as described in the said specification, and as defined in the clauses of the claims which are appended thereto. Hence, l do not limit my present invention to the exact arrangements and combinations of the various devices and parts as described in the said specification, nor do l confine myself to the exact details of the construction of the said parts, as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
