Abstract

609,179. Hinged boxes. PATRICK F. F. March 8, 1946, No. 7262. [Class 18] [Also in GROUP XXV] A hinge for the lid of a box comprises a pair of separate, axially aligned hinge pins located either within the lid or in adjacent sides of the body, and compression spring means adapted to press longitudinally upon the pins and thereby to hold the approp.iate ends of the latter in engagement with recesses formed either in the body or in the lid, the lid and body having complementary formations adapted to be interengaged when the lid is closed. The pins 3 and spring 4 are enclosed within a hole 7 formed in a transverse boss at the rear of the lid 2, the outer ends of the pins engaging elongated recesses 5 formed in the sides of the body 1. A dovetail projection 10 on the front end of the lid engages a complementary slot 9 in the body to hold the lid closed. Projections 12 on the lid engage recesses 11 in the body to provide a support for the lid when the latter is slid forward to disengage the dovetail catch. The Specification describes a moulded cigarette case having rounded ends and semi-circular grooves to accommodate the cigarettes. _____
