Abstract

242,758. Watts, A. E., and Johns, Son, & Watts, Ltd. Oct. 18, 1924. Boxes made from special blanks; handles.-In a cardboard or like box having a handle forming part of the box blank, the blank, Fig. 1, comprises four walls 1 - - 4 arranged in line with extensions 6 - - 9 at their ends having locking-means 10, 11 for closing the ends of the box, a fastening flap 5 at one end of the blank and an extension at the other end of the blank of sufficient length to be folded back on itself and shaped to constitute the carrying handle. The extension is formed of similar parts 13, 16 which are folded on the line 17 and, as shown, the part 16 has an extension 18 which is secured between the flap 5 and wall 1 of the box, Fig. 2; the extension 18 may be omitted and the parts 13, 16 secured together. The centre portions of both parts 13, 16 may be removed or a part or the whole of the centre portion of the part 13 may be retained and cut so as to fold between or around the parts 13, 16 when the box is made up.
