PATENT OFFICE.

DISPLAY BOX.
Application ma 'may 4,' 192s. serial No. 106,611.
bottles in which the containedl art-icle will drawings in which a preferred embodiment' be disposed in a manner best calculated to permit of its being handled.
Another object of the invention is to provide a display box of this character in which the contained article can be stored and shipped without breakage and with a great amount of facility and safety.
Other objects will appear as the disclosure progresses. The drawings are intended merely to indicate a possible embodiment of the invention. It is obvious that the actual needs of manufacture may necessitate certain mechanical changes. It is therefore not intended to limit the invention to the embodiment illustrated but rather to define such such limits in the appended claims.
For a more detailed understanding oi' the invention attention is now called to the is shown illustrated. In these drawings like parts are designated by like reference characters in all the views.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the' box.
Fig. 2 is a front view of the box shown in an opened position.
Fig. 3 is -a section on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a front view of the housingfor the bottle.
Fig. 5 is a section on line 5 5 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 6 is a section on line'6-6 of Fig. 4. Fig. 7 is a front view of the backing for the bottle housing.
Fig, 8 is a developed length of the interior wall of the bottle pocket.
Fig. 9 is a perspective view of the reinforcing member` of the bottle housing.
Fig. 10 is a section on line 10-10 of Fig. 8.
Referring now to the drawings in detail. numeral 1 designates the body of the box and 2 the cover hinged thereto by the hinge 3.
Within the box is a bottle housing 4 triangular in cross section and provided with an opening 5 in the front face. The opening is oval in shape with a flat base 6 and inserted therein'is a pocket 7 for the insert-ion of a bottle 8.
The interior walls 9 yo1 the pocket slope outwardly towards the rear thus allowing the bottle tobe snugly held in place and prevent its accidently leaving its position.
Within the pocket is a cushioned backing 10 for the bottle to rest against. The walls 9 of the pocket are preferably made of cardboard in the center numeral 11 with a covering of cloth numeral 12. As noted in Fi s. 5, 6 the rims of said walls curve outwardly and are providedv with a series of slots 13, see Fig. 8. This construction allows the bott-le to be resiliently kept in place in the pocket.
Surrounding the exterior of the pocket is a reinforcing member 14. The function of this member is to prevent the sloping wall 15 of the bottle housing from bending inwardly.
As noticed in Fig. 8 one end of the developed length of the wall member 11 is cut straight as at 16 and the opposite end 17 is cut at an an le. Also the score 18 is parallel to the end 1 With this arrangement when the wall member is bent so the ends 16 and 17'meet, the sloping outward "sides will be formed as shown in Figs. 5 and 6. Numeral 19 -is the base portion of the pocket and corresponds to the flat portion of the opening 5.
-Having thus described my invention, what I desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
l In a display box of the character described, a body portion triangular in cross section having a cover attached thereto by a hinge, said cover 'being triangular in cross section, a bottle housing havlng a pocket therein within the body portion, said housing being triangular in cross section to conform to the cross section of said body portion, an opening in the front wall of the bottle housing, said opening being oval shaped with a flat base, and a backing in the rear wall 'of said pocket, the said pocket adapted to snugly retain a bottle in place.
2. In a display box of the character described, la body portion having a cover hinge-d thereto, a bottle housing adapted to t in the body portion, said housing being triangular in cross section, an opening in the front face of said housing, said opening being oval in shape with a flat base, a pocket within the interior of said housing, the walls of said pocket sloping outwardly towards the back, outward turned rims of said walls, slits in the said rims, and a backing at the rear wall of said pocket, said pocket arranged to snugly hold a bottle.'
3. In a display .box of the character described,V a. body portion having a hinged cover attached thereto, a bottle housing in said body portion, a pocket in said bottle housin the walls of said pocket slopn 5 inward y towards the rear, said walls forme of one i{Jiece of material having a straight end an the opposite end cut at an angle,
a score parallel to the side cut at an angle adjaent the straight side2 and a curved portlon at the rim, said rim having slits 1 therein and curving upwardly.
In testimony whereof I aix my signature.
