HOLDER FOR ARTICLES OF JEWELRY AND THE LIKE Filed June 15, 1951 fwerzzai' JFim/ME 5732772 Patented July 28, 1953 HOLDER FOR ARTICLES OF JEWELRY AND THE LIKE Armando R. Cinami, Hoxsie, R. I., assignor to The Mason Box Company, Attleboro Falls, Mass., a corporation of Massachusetts Application June 15, 1951, Serial No. 231,777
Claims.
This invention relates to a holder for articles of jewelry and the like and more particularly to a holder for displaying jewelry bands, as for example, watch bands, bracelets or neck bands.
Objects of the invention are to provide a holder of the character described which will display jewelry bands in an attractive and appealing manner, which is of simple and compact construction and economical to manufacture, which is of pleasing appearance and which is easily adapted for use in jewelry boxes of standard commercial types.
In one aspect, the invention comprises a frame of sheet material havin two ends of predetermined width interconnected by a relatively narrow neck with shoulders on each of said ends at each side of the neck, the neck having at least one transverse line of bend about which the frame may be bent to form an upstanding support with a side between the line of bend and each of said ends, whereby the watch band may extend around said support along said sides with its lower edges resting on the shoulders of at least one of said ends. The neck may have transverse lines of bend about which the frame may be bent to form an upstanding support with a top between the lines of bend and a side between each line of bend and the adjacent ends. The top may have flaps extending outwardly at each side of the neck and bent downwardly to form the ends of the upstanding support.
In another aspect the frame has a transverse line of bend between its rear end and the adjacent side of said support about which the frame may be bent to tip said support and watch band rearwardly.
In still another aspect the frame fits within a box body, the two ends of the frame abutting the bottom of the front and rear walls of the box body, respectively.
For the purpose of illustration, a preferred embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 is a plan View of the blank from which the holder is constructed;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged isometric view of the holder constructed from the blank of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the holder of Fig. 2 disposed in a box body and showing the manner in which a watch band is displayed;
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary side elevation of the embodiment of Fig. 3 with parts broken away; and.
Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 4 but showing a m dified mbod me t of t e holder.
Referring to Fig. 1 of the drawing, the blank from which the holder is constructed comprises a frame I of suitable stiff sheet material, as for example, cardboard or sheet metal preferably having a flocked upper surface and including a rear end 2 and a front end 3 of a predetermined width. The ends are interconnected by a relatively narrow neck 4 and are each provided with shoulders 5 and 6 at each side of the neck.
The neck is separated by spaced transverse lines of bend 1 and 8 into three sections 9, I0 and II, the section In being provided at the sides of the neck with outwardly extending flaps I2 and I 3.
The frame is further provided between its rear end and the adjacent section 9 of the neck with a transverse line of bend I4 for a purpose to be hereinafter described.
In forming the frame into the holder, it is bent along the lines of bend I and 8, as shown in Fig. 2, to form the neck 4 into an upstanding support, the section II! of the neck constituting the top of the support and the sections 9 and I I of the neck constituting the rear and front sides of the support respectively, the section 9 being inclined downwardly and rearwardly from the line of bend l and the section II being inclined downwardly and forwardly from the line of bend 8. The flaps I2 and I 3 are bent downwardly along the lines of bend I5 and I6 provided in the section I0 to constitute the ends of the support.
The frame I is also bent along the line of bend I4, as shown in Fig. 2, to lower the shoulders 5 and section 9 with relation to the shoulders 6 and section I I thereby to tilt the support rearwardly.
While the holder as thus formed may be used on a counter or window floor for displaying a watch band or other jewelry band, it is preferably used, as shown in the embodiment of Figs. 3 and 4, in a standard commercial type jewelry box comprising a box body I8 having a bottom wall I9, side walls 20 and a front and rear wall 22 and 2 I, the box body being telescoped for display purposes in an inverted cover 23 in the customary manner.
When thus used, the ends 2 and 301' the holder are of a predetermined width to conform to the space between the side walls 20 of the box body and the holder is disposed in the box body with the front edge of the front end 3 and the rear edge of the rear end 2 abutting the bottom of the front and rear walls 22 and 2|, respectively, of the box body. Preferably, the rear end 2 extends parallel to and rests upon the bottom wall I9 of the box body as shown in Fig. 4 but if it is desired to provide less of a rearward tilt to the supupstanding support along the ends or flaps l2 and I3 and the sides or sections 9 and II with its lower edges resting on the. shoulders 6:, the
band thus being tilted rearwardly and at least its front portion being supported above the top edges of the side and front walls of the box, thereby to display the band in an attractive manner from the front and sides of the box. With reference to Fig. 5, the lower edges of the band also rest on the shoulders 5.
While in the above embodiments the neck has two transverse lines of bend 1 and 8, it is understood that it may have one or more than two' such lines of bend about which the frame may be bent to form the neck into an upstanding support, the sections between the line or lines of bend and the adjacent ends of the frame constituting the sides of the support.
It should be understood that the present disclosure is for the purpose of illustration only and that this invention includes all modifications and equivalents which fall within the scope of the appended claims.
