Description

UNITED STATESV PATENT CEETQE.
JAMES CURZON, OF DARIEN, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN LAMPBURNERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 158,254, dated December 29, 1674; application filed December 5, l1874.
Improvement in Lamps, of which the following is a specitication:
This inven tion relates to the construction of lamps, and applies especially to the construction ot' the Wick-tubes, whereby a greatly-increased Volume ot' light is afforded; and it consists in a burner of two Wicks, having the wick-tubes bent longitudinally, either their upper parts or throughout their entire length, and so arranged as to form a star or similar shaped light.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a top View, showing the form ot' the Wicktubes, with the cone removed. Fig. 2 is a seotion of Fig. 1, taken on the line x a'.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the cone. B B are the wick-tubes. C are gear-Wheels for elevating and depressing `tl1e wicks, in the usual manner. D represents the wicks.
' The upper portions of the Wick-tubes are bent longitudinally, so as to form nearly a right angle each. The angles e e of these wicktubes are placed nearly or quite in contact with each other, so that the dame is star shaped. This arrangement, in Whatever position the lamp may be placed, presents two sides from which light is radiated toward the user.
The Wick-tubes may be Vbent their ent-ire length instead of at their ends, and instead of right angles they may be circular with the convex sides placed in contact, or nearly in contact, with each other. It' each wick formed the segment of `the circle instead of an angle, the result would be nearly the saine, or a starshaped light would be produced, but li prefer the arrangement shown.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of' the wick-tubes B B bent longitudinally, and arranged with their angles contiguous, as shown and described.
' JAMES CURZON.
