IMPROVEMENTIN LAMP-CHIMNEYS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178,089, dated May 30, 1876; application filed April 18, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ELIJAH TOLMAN, Jr., of
' Taunton, Bristol county, Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Lamp-Chimney, of which the following is a specification:
The invention is an improvement in the class of lamp-chimneys which are provided with a hole for insertion of a match or taper for lighting the lamp. The improvement relates to the'means or mode of attaching the cover of the hole to the chimney, as hereinafter described.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a lamp-chimney having an opening for lighting it contrived according to my invention. Fig. 2 is a section on line a: m.
A is the chimney; B, the hole for the match;
G, the eyelet for attaching the cover The eyelet 0 is fitted in the hole, and from it extends an arm or shank, E, downward to form a support for the cover, the shank or stem G of which is pivoted to it at F. This arm E 1 and the stem G are set so as'to' spring the cover into the hole a little, and the cover is made convex on the side pressing against the eyelet G, to adapt it to close the hole tight.
What I claim is- The combination, with the chimney, of the eyelet (J, provided with arm E, and the cover having shank G, by which it is pivoted to said arm, as shown and described.
