N PETERS PHOTOLNHOGRAFHER, WASHINGTON. 0 (L UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
PARTRICK J. CLARK AND JOSEPH KINTZ, OF WEST MERIDEN, CONNECTICUT,
IM PROVEM ENT IN LAMPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 213,620, dated March 25, 1879; application filed I February 24, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, PARTRIOK J. CLARK and J OSEPH KINTZ, of West Meriden, in the county of New Haven, Connecticut, have i11- vented a new and Improved Lamp, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a side elevation, showing the lamp-cup in section. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken on line as m in Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Our invention relates to a novel fastening for securing the lamp-fount in the drip-cup; and it consists in a cup having near the bottom inwardly-projecting nibs or lugs, which engage a flange formed'on the bottom of the fount, said flange being notched to admit of placing the fount upon the bottom of the cup.
The object of the invention is to provide a quick and reliable fastening for securing the fount of lamps in their cups.
In the drawings, A is a lamp-fount of any desirable shape, having at its base a flange, b, in which are formed several notches, c.
The drip-cup B, to which the fountis fitted, is provided with the usual threaded aperture at the bottom, for receiving the stem or shank by which the lamp is supported.
Lugs d, corresponding in number and position with the notches in the flange 1), project from the inner surface of the sides of the cup, above the bottom thereof, in position to engage the flange when the fount is placed in the cup.
Upon opposite sides of one of the notches c, on the upper face of the flange b, there are ribs 0, for limiting the motion of the fount when it is placed in the cup and turned to fasten it.
The fount is placed so that the notches c coincide with the lugs d when it is set upon the bottom of the cup and turned to bring the flange under the lugs.
The improvement applies to lamps of every description that are used in connection with a drip-cup.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A lamp whose fount A and cup B are held together by the notched flange b c and lugs 01, constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. The ribs e, formed on the flange b, for limiting the movement of the lamp-fount. substantially as herein shown and described.
