This invention consists in securing the chim-` ney to the lamp-top by means of a hook which is attached t0 the `lamp-top and has a spring connected to it, andall'arranged in such a manner that the hook will,'under the action Aot' the spring, pressdovvn upon vthe flange 'of the chimneyand lirinly secure the latter to the cone of the burner.

The-object of the invention is to obtain a chimney catch or fastening which will not only secure firmly the chimney to the lamp-top and Vadmit of the former being readily attached to and detached from the latter, but which will u also possess the advantage of being secured to the lamp-top Without cutting away any portion of the latter to admit air` into the chimney or burner-a result Which attends all of the spring catches or fastenings which have passed undermy observation.

`Arepresentsa lamp top or` burner, which may be constructed in the` ordinary way, and B the chimney, provided with a Iiangc, a, at its bottom, as usual.

G'is a hook of the form commonly termed .hawkbill.` (See Fig. l.) This hook is attached to an axis, b, the ends -of which are fitted in lugs or. projections c c on the upper edge of the lamp-top and allowed to turn freely therein. The axis b has a spiral spring,

d, attached to it, one end of which is secured Ato or bears against the burner.. This spring has a tendency to keep the inner end of the hook C pressed` down on-the flange a of the chimney, whereby the latter is secured on the cone. l

The hook C extends outward sufficient] y far to admit ofbeing readily depressed by the thumb or linger, so as to cause its inner endto, and it may be as cheaply applied as any of them, and is not liable to become deranged by use, which is the case with those fasteningsl having a spring and hook or catch combined in one piece, the spring being liable to become strained andbent out of proper position-a contingency vwhich cannot occur in my invention.
