Description

Patented Feb. 9, 1926.
PATENT OFFICE.
.UNITEDSTATES WILLIAM HILTON, or SEATTLE, WASHINGTON.
TILE GAUGE.
n Applieationled March 30, 1925. Serial No. 19,516.
To all whomit may concern,"
Be it known that I, VILIJIAM HILTON, a 'subject` of theKing of England, residing `at Seattle, county of King, and State of lashington, have invented a ynew'and useful 1mprovement in File Gauges; and I do hereby declaret-hat thefollowing is a full, clear, and @exact specification, suchas will enable others vskilled in the art to which itappertains to make and use the'same.`
The invention is an'imp'rovement in iiley gauges in that a vmeans is provided for gripping the sawi e rlhe lnvent-ion 1s animprovement over my prior Patent No. 1,521,098,`1ssued December 30th, 1924, and also `my prior application which was filed August 6th, 1923, with the Serial Number'66414. I
l vention will be seenfrom the 4following description taken in connection with the draw ings` [wherein Figure 1 1s a side elevation.
` Figure 2 1s a kplan View.
Figure 3 is ase'ctional view on line 3-3 y of Figure 1.
Figure l4 is a section similar to that shown l1n Figure 3 showing an` alternate means for clamping a bracketto the block.
Figure 5 is ya :sectional viewshowing a side view of theclamp shown in Figure 4.
ligure 6 isa Vview 'showing the gauge for f holding the saw teeth at regular intervals.
yFigure 7 .is a viewshowing another alternate arrangementfor holding the bracket to the block.
Figure 8 is a view showingA an alternate arrangement vvfor, holding the file.'
FigureV 9 is a similar view showing an- .other alternate design. Y
Figure 191s a .view showing a clamp of shell with one end wider than the other and one 'side'open The interior is illed with a block, which may be of wood or any suitable material, which .has a r straight cut i through its center as indicated by the lines et which show theposition oi a rip saw over `which. the block may be placed while ity is being iled; and diagonal Acuts through it as indicated by the dotted lines 5 and 6 through which cross cut saws may bepla'ced while being filed. 'ln the metallic sides' are slots 7,
which have enlarged openings 8 at their upper ends and beveled surfaces 9 at the lower 'edge 'of the openings which should have a slope similar to that of the saw teeth.
Q-The slots 7 are placed at the ends of the cut-s 4, 5 and 6 so that the saw will pass through them. e y
At the sides of the block are gauges 10 which engage the teethof the saw and hold it while it is being filed. The gauges 10 are `made of iiatpieces of material with beveled edges 11 and 12 which engagethe saw teeth,
Vand projections V13 and 14 which may be 'bent around a groove 15 in the headof a screw 16 which may be screwed' into a hole between the enlarged portions 8 of two of the slots 7 so that as they are turned on one side of the screw they will engage the teeth of the saw that may be placed in the center slot and when they are turned on the opposite side they will engage a saw placed through one of the diagonal slots.
The bracket 2 may be constructed with flat pieces otmaterial 17 bent as shown in Figure l1 and having openings V18 in enlarged sections`19 at the endsV by which the bracket may be held to the block. Theends are heldby thumb screws 20 that may be placed through the. openings 18 and screwed Y into the ends of the block or into nuts, lugs,
or enlarged portions on the insides of the ends as maybe desired. The upper ends 21 of the flat pieces ofmaterial 17 are provided ill) Ll il willi lioles into wliieii n` bnr 22 linvinfil :i guide bnr lf3 niny be plzieed.
