FOR-M CLAMP.
Application filed 'March 20,1924. Serial No. 700,538.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that we, MYRON C. BAXTER and yCARL L. YOUNG, citizens ofthe United States, residing at Kalamazoo and Galesburg, county of Kalamazoo, State of Michigan, respectively, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Form Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in form clamps,
The main objects of our invention are to provide an improved form clamp which` may be easily applied to the form and adjusted to clamp the same, and at the same time is easily and quickly disengaged.
A further object is to provide an improved form clamp having these advantages which is very powerful and at the same time simple and economical in structure.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear fromk the detailed description to follow.A
We accomplish theobjects of our invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly. defined and lpointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of our invention is clearly illustrated in the .accompanying drawing, lforming a part of this application, in which:
Fig. I is a fragmentary perspective view of a form having one of our clamps applied thereto.
Fig. II is a rear elevation of our improved clamp, the tie being sectioned on a line corresponding to line 2-2 of Fig. III.
Fig. III is a detail view partially in section on a line corresponding to line 3-3 of Fig. II. f
In the drawing similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several vie-ws, and the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.
Referring to the drawing, 1, 1 represent a pair of form uprights and 2, .2 the walls. These are shown only for the purpose of illustrating the use of our clamp.
We provide a looped tie member 3 which is adapted to be placed upon the uprights, as shown, the ends of the arms 4 of the tie member illustrated having outwardly facing teeth or serrations 5.
The body member 6 of the clamp is U- shaped and its arms are preferably longitudinally channeled at 7 to provide retainmg guideways for the jaw slide or carrier ,8. The jaw slide or carrier 8 is slidably supported between the arms 4 and is provided with projecting arms 9 having slots 10 therein through which the arms 4 of the tie member are disposed.
The clamping jaws 11 are adjustably supported in the arms 9 of the carrier by means of pins 12 which engage the slots 13, the slots being disposed in a diagonal or outwardly inclined relation. The jaws are thus pivotally and slidably. supported so that they may be readilyengaged with the arms of the'tie member, and when the carrier is moved outwardly as by means of the clamping bolt 14 arranged through the end of the clamp member 6, the jaws are wedged aga-inst the tie member and the greater the stress the greater `their holding or clampingengagement. At the same time, when the jaw carrier is released the jaws may be readily disengaged and the clamp removed from the tie member. In practice, a spacing block 15 is arranged between the form clamp, the same being supported on the tie member by nails 16 projecting from the blocks. e
@ur improved form clamp has the advantage of being very easily adjusted to and clamped upon the work, and further, the parts are economical to produce and at the same time are very strong and durable.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A form clamp comprising a looped tie member having outwardly facing serrations in its arms, a U-shaped clamp member, a jaw carrier slidably disposed between the arms of said clamp member, said jaw carrier having projecting slotted arms through which the'arms of the tie member are disposed, toothed clamping jaws disposed in said slotted arms and provided withoutwardly inclined slots, said arms having pins engaging said slots whereby the jaws are pivotally and slidingly supported, and an adjusting bolt for said jaw carrier disposed through the end of said clamp member.
2. A form clamp comprising a looped tie member, a U-shaped clamp member, a jaw carrier slidably mounted between the arms of said clamp member and having projecting slotted arms through'whioh the arms of the tiecgmember are disposed, fclamping jaws disposed in said slotted arms and provided with outwardly inclined slots, said arms having pins engaging said slots whereby the jaws are pivotally and slidingly supported, and an adjusting bolt for said jaw carrier disposed through the end of said clamp member.
'3. A form clamp comprising a U-shaped "clamp member having internal longitudinally disposed guides, a jaw carrier disposed between the arms of said clamp member in member, said jaw carrier having projecting slotted arms through which a tie member may be disposed', clamping jaws disposed in said slotted arms and provided with outwardly inclined slots, said. arms having pins engagingsaid slots whereby the jaws are supported for pivotal and sliding movement to engage a tie member, and an adjusting bolt for said jaw carrier disposed through the end of said clamp member.
5. A form' clamp comprising a U-shaped clamp member having internal longitudinally disposed guides on its arms, a jaw.
carrier disposed between the arms of said clamp member in sliding engagement with said guides thereof, said jaw carrier having projecting arms through which a tie member may be disposed, clamping jaws mounted in said arms for pivotal and sliding movement to engage a tie member, and an adjusting means for said jaw carrier carried by said clamp member.
6. A form clamp comprising a U-shaped clamp member, a jaw carrier disposed between the arms o said clamp member in sliding engagement therewith, said jaw carrier having projecting arms through which a tie member may be disposed, clamping jaws mounted in said arms, and an adjusting means for said jaw carrier carried by said clamp member.
7. A form clamp comprising a U-shaped clamp member, a jaw carrier mounted between the arms of said clamp member, said jaw carrie-r having projecting arms through which a tie member may be disposed, clamping jaws mounted in Said arms for pivotal and sliding movement to engage a tie member, and an adjusting means for said jaw carrier carried by said clamp member.
8. A form clamp comprising a U-shaped clamp member, a jaw carrier mounted between the arms of said clamp member, said jaw carrier having projecting arms through which a tie member may be disposed, clamp ing jaws mounted in said arms, and an adjusting means for said jaw carrier carried by said clamp member.
In witness whereof, we have hereunto set our hands.
