Description

J. H. MILLING Dec. 15, 1925. 1,566,159
STICK FILE Filed May 14, 1925 I H M11117;
Patented Dec. 15, 1925.
PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES H. MILLING, OF DALLAS, TEXAS.
STICK FILE.
Application filed May 14, 1925.
1 '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J A'MES I-I. MILLING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dallas, in the county of Dallas and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stick Files; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to stick files and particularly to filing devices of the type shown in my previous Patent #1338549, of December 12, 1922, and has for its object the improvement of the stick file disclosed in said patentby the addition of a plate integral with the standard carrying the weighted pendant, said plate being adapted for use for the display of advertising matter, or for indexing the file as may be desired,
' the plate carrying the pendant, and the pendant being of tapered formation conforming to and engaging the tapered end of the filing pin to more expeditiously hold the matter engaged by the pin to prevent accidental displacement therefrom.
The construction and operation and advantages of the invention will be made clear hereinafter and will be found illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which the figure discloses the stick file in perspective.
Referring to the drawing, a suitable base 1 made of any suitable material has a pin 2 secured therein with its upper end tapered to a point as shown at 3. A standard at is also secured in the base 1 and has extending laterally from its upper end an integral plate 5 that is adapted to receive advertising matter or may be used for indexing the contents of the file as may be preferred.
Serial No. 30,238.
Flexible element 6 has one of its ends secured in an opening 7 in the plate, and has its lower end secured to the weighted pendentv 8 that has its lower end tapered .to conform to the taper of the end 3 of the pin 2, and in its normal position said tapered portion of the pendant 8 engages the tapered end 3 and serves to prevent accidental displacement of the papers from the pin 2.
It will be readily apparent that in using the device, the pendant 8 will be displaced from its position engaging the tapered end 3 by pushing the papers against the pendant preliminary to impaling them on the pin and that when said pressure is released the pendant will swing back in engagement with the pin, and as long as the base 1 rests upon a horizontal foundation, the pendant will engage the pin for the purpose hereinbefore stated.
What is claimed is 1. In a stick file, a base member, an impaling pin secured to said base member and having a tapered upper end, a standard secured to said base member and having an offset portion, a flexible member connected to said offset, and a pendant supported by said flexible member and having its lower end tapered to conform to the taper on the pin.
2, In a stick file, a base member, an impaling pin secured to said base member and having a tapered upper end, a standard secured to said base member, a plate integral with and extending laterally from said standard, a flexible member connected to said plate, and a pendant supported by said flexible member and having its lower end tapered to conform to the taper on the pin.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature JAMES H. MILLING
