Description

Aug. 25, 1925.A 1,550,937'v M. VOGT SASH HOLDER Filed July 7. 1922 Patented Aug.. 25, 1925.
STATES MATHIAS VOGT, OF CICERO, ILLINOIS.
SASH HOLDER.
Application filed July 7,
To all wiz-0m t may concern:
Be it known that I, MATHIAS Voer, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cicero, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sash Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to window sash holders and more particularly to such as are capable of maintaining a sash in a predetermined open or closed position, it having for its primary object the provision of a sash holder which is simple in construction, convenient of application and highly elficient in use.
The invention also has for its object to provide in a sash holder of this kind, a novel and improved latching means whereby the sash holder may be locked in sash-engaging or non-engaging position.
The above and other objects are attained by means of a novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed, and in order that the same may be better understood, reference is had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification.
In the drawing,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of an upper and lower window sash, illustrating the application of my invention to the upper left hand corner of the lower sash,` and,
Fig. 2 is a plan view of my sash holder in sash holding position.
Referring specifically to the drawing, wherein like reference characters designate like parts throughout both views, numerals 5 and 6 denote fragments of the side and top rails, respectively, of the lower window sash at their left hand meeting point, and 7 a portion of the left hand side rail of the upper sash. Positioned upon the upper end of the side rail 5 of the lower sash is a metal plate 8, the same being secured by means of wood screws 9 or other suitable means. A pan-shaped disk 10 is eccentrically pivoted upon the plate 9 by means of a screw 11, the same extending through an aperture in the plate 8 and into the stock of the side rail 5. This disk 10 is provided with a circumferential upstandingflange 12 from a a portion of which the operating handle 12"i for rotating the disk 10` is formed. The disk 10 is so positioned upon the plate 8 that upon rotation thereof it will cam against 1922. Serial No. 573,345.
the inner face of the side rail 7 of the upper sash to hold the same against relative movement with respect to the lower sash.
At its outer end the base plate 8 is formed with an upturned lip 13 to which is pivoted an L-shaped lever 14, the arm 14a of which is adapted to engage in notches 15 or 15a in the edge of the disk flange 12 to latch the same in or out of engagement with the side rail 7 of the upper sash as desired. The arm 14a will be engaged in the notch 15 when the disk 10 is to be held clear of the upper sash and in one of the notches 15a for holding the cam surface of the disk in engagement therewith. I have shown only two notches 15a but it is of course understood that others may be employed so that the cam surface of the disk 10 may be held against the upper sash with varying pressure.
From the foregoing description read in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction and operation of my sash holder will be readily understood. The lever 14 may be swung back out of the way when not needed. The device in addition to serving as a sash holder, also serves as an anti-rattler and when the sashes fit loosely in the window frame will prevent shaking and rattling thereof. If found desirable a second sash holder may be secured upon the upper end of the right hand side rail of the lower sash. It will be noted that the marginal flange 12 lends rigidity to the disk without necessitating the use of heavy stock.
In accordance with the patent statutes Iv have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of my invention but it will be understood that I do not propose to limit myself to the specic details set forth since various changes and modifications thereof will immediately suggest themselves to those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of my invention, the scope of which is set forth in the claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. The combination with one of the sash rails of a window; of a base plate secured thereto, an integral tongue, projecting from said plate, a disk eccentrically pivoted upon said plate and rotatable to cam against a rail of the other sash to prevent relative movement thereof, the edge of said disk terminating -in a lateral circumferential flange having notches in the edge thereof, and a latch arm pivoted to said tongue and adapted to engage one of said notches for holding said disk in a desired position with respect to said second mentioned sash.
2. A sash holder comprising a base plate, an integral tongue projecting from said plate, a disk eccentrically pivoted upon said plate, the latter forming a bearing surface,
flange at the edge of said disk forming a bearing surface, said iiange having recesses therein, and a latch member selectively engageable with said recesses for holding said disk in a predetermined position.
4;. The combination with one of the sash rails of a Window; of a disk eccentrically pivoted upon said sash rail and movable to cam against a portion of the other sash transversely of its path of movement to prevent relative movement thereof and to maintain said sashes in any desired relative position, said disk having a plurality of latch receiving portions on its upper face, and a latching 'device associated with said sash rail and movable transversely of the face of the disk to engage said latch receiving portions for holding said disk in a predetermined fixed position.
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature.
MATHIAS VOGT.
