Feb. 16,1926;
R. V. WA'RGA WINDOW LOCK Filed May 13. 1925 WITNESS:
Patented F eb. 16, 1926. v
3. m v. wAneA, on ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
' Application filed May 13, 1925. serial no. 30,045.
To all whom it may concern." Y
Be it known thatI, ROBERT V. VVARGA, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis city, in the State ofMissouri, have invented new and useful. Improvements in ivindow Locks, of which the following is a specification. I Y
This invention relates to window locks and its principal object is to provide a window lock which will lock and positively hold the window in any raised position.
An object of the invention is to provide a lock of this character which'embodies a;
toothed or serrated bar to be carried by one segment for engagement with the tooth of the serrated bar to hold the two sashes in locked position with respect to each other.
With the preceding and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists in the'novel combination of elements and arrangement of parts and operations to be hereinafter specifically referred to, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the appended claim. 1
In the drawings;
Figure 1 is a fragmentary elevation of a window having my invention associated therewith. r v
Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmentary 'sectional view of the window having the invention applied thereto, the invention being shown in elevation, and
Figure 3 is a top plan view of thetoothed segment and its mounting.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein corresponding characters of reference denote corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 designates an Lshaped plate having openings 6 therein to receive screws or other fastenings 7 to hold the L-shaped plate to the upper face of the lower sash as shownv in Figure 2.
of the window sashes and a pivoted toothed Extend- 7 ing from the L- sha'ped plate is a pair of up- 7 Standing ears 8 to'which a triangular shaped locking segment 10 is pivoted, as indicated at 11. This toothedisegment has its inner edge provided with teethor corrugations 12.
Extending along one of the rails of-the upper sash and secured thereto is a-rtooth or serrated bar 13 whose ends are secured to the sash by means of fastenings 13. The toothed or locking segment can be swung on its pivotto engage ordisengage the same from the toothed or serrated bar 13 by grasping-the same at. a. point indicated by the reference numeral 14.
From the disclosure it will be seen that 1 provide a -simple and inexpensive lock which Jean be associated with any window embodymg sliding sashes and which 'atthe same r-tnne will hold the two sashesin various positions with respect'to each other. 1 While I have shown. and described the preferredembodiment of the invention, I desire to have it known that such changes may be made in the form, construction, arrangement of parts and operations as will not'departfrom the spirit-ofthe invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
What is claimed is A device of the character describedcomprising a serrated bar to be secured to one of the rails .of a vertically movable sash, an L-shaped plate to be secured to the upper 76 face of a lower sash, a pair of upstanding ears formed on the plate, a tri-angular shapedtoothed segment pivotally supported between the ears in a manner to engage with the toothed bar .whereby to lock the two 30 sashes in various positions with respect to each other by the engagement of the teeth of the segment with theteeth of the bar.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
ROBERT V. WARGA.
