'LUTHER HILL, or Los ANGELES, cnmronivin.
ANTIRATTLE wmnow LOCK.
Y Appneation filed rebruary 23, 1923. seriai No.'e2o,ee1.
This invention is an improvement inV thatV class of anti-rattle and burglar proof locks for window sashes in whicha friction device is slidably mounted on a base and is operable by a lever pivoted to .the base, to engage one window sash of a pair of sashes, to the other sash of which pair the base is fixed. f Y v Said locks are applicable to a window sash singly tov prevent rattle, or in pairs to insure against entrance of burglars, and an object is to adapt the improvement to both right and left members of a pair of theY locks so that the release will operate satisfactorily in either and both of such locks when properly installedV on a sash. l
An object is to provide a simple and effective construction whereby the lock can be easily released. f
A feature of myrinvention is to provide a screw forA the actuating lever which screw serves to secure the lock to the sash.
Other objects, advantages and features of invention may appear from the accompanying drawing, the subjoined detail description'and the appended claim.
'The accompanying drawing illustrates the invention. j v
Figure 1 is a broken perspective view showing a pair of window locks equipped with my vimprovement and installed on a window; a fragmentA of whichV is shown. The lock at theleft is shown as having been moved to unlocked position while that at the right is in locking position in solid lines and unlocking positi'onlin dot and dashlines. Fig. 2 is a plan of the window lock shown in the left of Fig. 1. A fragment of the upper sash and the frame are shownin section. Dot and dash lines vindicate the parts in locking position. f Fig. 3 is a section on line w3, Fig.2. Fig. 4 is a section on line @s4-m, Fig.' 2, showing the device in locking position.
Fig. 5 is a section on line x4-m5, Fig.A 2, showing the device in unlocked position.l
Fig. 6 is an elevation taken from the left of Figs. 2 and 3. A The lock lto whichthis improvement is applied comprises three parts, as base 1, a locking slide 2 and locking lever 3 connected to each other and to the top of the lower sash a ofia window by the screw 4 whichacts as a pivot for the lever 3. 'The base 1 is attached to said lower sash by screws 5. TheV slide 2 is provided with a slot 6 through which the screw 4 is inserted ,p f and flanges 7 upturned from thefbase 1 L form a guideway for the slide 2. ,Said slide v2 is provided with frictional sash engaging means8 consisting of a block 9 preferably of rubber mounted in a holder 10 that'is formed by an upturned end,V of the slidey i pressedinto shape. The engaging means 8 ispmoved intol sash engaging position by means of the lever 3 which is rounded at one end 11`to engage the meansS, and is prof vided at the other end with a handle or n thumb piece 12, and is adaptedto turn on the screw 4. Y
In the present invention l have provided',
the slide 2 with -a shoulder, yknob or protuberance 14 struck up from the slide and so positioned that when the lever is moved from locking position itY will act upon the knob to retract the slide 2 with itsmeans 8 from sash engaging position.
The manner of applying thev employed heretofore and the operation is locks to the window is substantially theV same as that n.
the same excepting that when a'handle 12 is turned toward the center `of the .window5 f the same being toward the right of-thelefthand lock and toward the left of the righthand lock, the lever contacts with the shoulder boss or knob 14 and operates arslide.
Said boss or Vknob `is struck up from the slide close to one vedge thereof and at` such v a distance .from block 10 to allow the rounded end vofthe lever to Vfit betweenthe block and the projection 14, so that the action ofthe lever willl be such as to easily actuate'the slide to perform its. function.
I claim: Y 'In an anti-rattle window lock, comprisin a base, screws adapted to extend throng said base into the upper edgeof the lower sash of a Window, integrally formed up* wardly extending flangeson the sides of said base, a slotted slide adapted to move longitudinally between said flanges, a lholder in-l tegral with saidslide and 'arranged at one end thereof, a rubber block carried by said 1 holder, a lever, a screw extending through the lever and base andadapted to be screwed by said lever to ymove the slide out of sash into a sash through` the Slotl in 'said slide to, engaging position. pivot said lever, said lever being adapted to i engage said holder to move lsaid slide into my hand at Los Angeles, California, this sash lengaging position andv ya projection' Y17th day of February, 1923. struck up on said slide near one edgev therefv of',"adapted and arranged to be acted upon l LUTHER HILL.
vIn testimony whereof, I have hereunto sel; l
